Description

THE OVERVIEWOffered for an appreciating new owner is this ULTRA rare classic 1973 BMW BAVARIA E3 SEDAN! This is the 3. 0 liter "S" model with dual Weber carbs. four speed manual & factory a/c (not working). This car runs very well. Come on by for a test drive!. I'm located in San Clemente. California which is 64 miles from San Diego and 64 miles from Los Angeles. OFFERED WITH A STARTING PRICE OF ONLY $1. 50 AND NO RESERVE!!!!A short discussion on rust: There are two types of rusty cars. One that lived in the snow country and was subjected to salty roads. This kind of car has rust on the body panels AND structural rust. The other type of rusty car is one that is affectionately known as a California Beach Car. Whereby it was parked a block or two away from the ocean for a number of years. This car gets rust on the body panels. but does not have major structural rust. This is what I believe is the type of car I have for sale. I found this car for sale at a San Diego wrecking yard. It runs very nicely. I paid the DMV $177 to get possession of the car. In order to be registered in California with a Salvaged Title (I did buy it at a wrecking yard). it needs to pass a Lighting and Brake inspection. The brakes work great. but the turn signals. brake lights. and reverse lights don't work. SO I AM SELLING THIS CAR WITH A BILL OF SALE. NO TITLE. I will give you all the paperwork I got from the wrecking yard and the DMV. You can register it in your own state. If you are a Californian. you will need to pass the Lighting and Brake Inspection before you get your Salvaged Title. It is Smog exempt because it is pre-1975. This car sports a 180 horsepower 3. 0 liter inline six cylinder engine with dual carbs mated to a factory 4 speed manual transmission. Features include FACTORY (disconnected) air conditioning. 14" Alpina-style wheels with like-new Chinese "Regul" tires on all 5 wheels. PLEASE CALL 310-562-8992 FOR QUESTIONS. ADDITIONAL PHOTOS. TEST DRIVES. OR INSPECTIONS. We can also "facetime" with our smart phones. That way you can have a personalized virtual tour and inspection. I have an Apple I-Phone with Verizon service. I can also text you videos of it driving down the road. THE BODY AND TRIMThe exterior of this 1973 BMW is in unmolested condition. It was originally painted blue. then beige and now brown. The current paint is very old. Good trim with no paint overspray. Front bumper mostly straight with some rust at the top right. Rear bumper is pushed in slightly (rear ended). There is exterior body rust. but it has excellent shock towers [which is very crucial on these cars] and floor boards/pan. There is some rust in the spare tire compartment that someone applied a type of tar to. I have also included a photo of the bottom of the spare tire compartment that shows a little rust (second to last photo). Also near the spare tire is a small tear in the unibody that should to be tack welded (see photo). All of the window glass is intact with no long cracks or deep scratches. The aftermarket windshield has a pea sized circular crack at the bottom right. The hazard lights work at all four corners. The turn signal switch clicks properly into left & right. It also cancels when the wheel is turned. The left front turn signal lens is broken. but you can buy a new one for $49 on the internet. All four headlights work in high beam mode. but only one headlight works in low beam mode. THE INTERIORThe interior of this Bavaria is in decent quite original condition overall. The vinyl dash has some minor cracking. the REAL WOOD trim has some delamination. the door panels are very nice originals. nbsp; and the headliner is torn. The front seats have period brown bottoms and blue backs. The rear seat and rear arm rest has factory brown upholstery. The carpets are faded factory originals. So it will be easy for your upholstery shop to fashion factory replicas. The dome light works. the trunk light works. and all the electric windows work (very slowly; they need to be cleaned an lubricated). The running lights work. The major gauges all work: tachometer. speedometer. temperature gauge & gas gauge. The dummy lights work. The clock works! The following electrical items do NOT work: Turn signals. reverse lights. brake lights. horn. odometer. air conditioning. interior fan. radio. and the glove box does not open. The air conditioning compressor does not have a fan belt attached to it. The wrecking yard cut the supply and return air conditioning hoses with bolt cutters. THE DRIVING EXPERIENCEThis classic BMW sedan starts well and has a strong engine. smooth shifting transmission. and good braking. The car idles nicely once it is warmed up (before it is warm. it will stall). The engine does not smoke out of the exhaust (or anywhere else). The transmission and clutch are in great condition. It up shifts and down shifts smoothly with no grinding and no popping out of gear. Under heavy acceleration. there is a violent vibration. Could be a bad u-joint or a bad rear differential. This car does not overheat. The temperature gauge needle stays where it should. IN CONCLUSIONMy guess is that this car was woken up from a long slumber. The radiator and and coolant hoses appear to be new. There were four used brake rotors in the trunk. so I'm assuming the brake rotors are new. One of the front brake calipers appears to be new. The dual Weber carbs appear to be rebuilt. One of the drive shafts on the transaxle appears to be new and the muffler appears to be new. I am trying to be completely honest and upfront about this car. I don't want you to be surprised by anything. I have more photos. Please let me know if you want me to send you photos of specific areas. It is best if you call or text me. Bruce Jamieson. at 310-562-8992 so I can get your contact/email information. I can also text you video of it driving down the road. THE DETAILS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS1. This 1973 BAVARIA is located in San Clemente.
