Description

Hello. I am selling my 1998 BMW M3. I am the sixth owner. and I have used this car as my weekend cruiser/backroad corner carver. The engine sounds very healthy. delivers power very linearly. and is very smooth with oil changes every 6500 miles using Castrol Edge 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil and OEM filters. The clutch feels solid. and the transmission shifts very smoothly. The power steering lines. lower control arms. and trailing arm bushings and bushing limiters were all replaced within the last two years. in May 2014. April 2013. and April 2013. respectively. The entire cooling system was replaced at 122. 00 miles in mid February 2011 including a new water pump with a metal impeller. There are also rear shock tower reinforcement plates installed. This month I replaced the final stage unit and the AC compressor belt. The car has been to one track day. and two auto-x events in its life. I have service records from the point it was bought by the second owner as a CPO in 2000. This M3 does have some tasteful modifications to improve its handling capabilities. There are Bilstein PSS9 adjustable coilovers on all four corners. I currently have them set to the second stiffest damping setting. and about midway through the ride height range. The ride is a bit rough with these settings. but the body control is incredible when you start pushing the car. Also. the damping can be adjusted to make the ride much more compliant. The braking system has also been upgraded with Brembo blank rotors. Hawk Performance racing pads. and steel braided brake lines on all four corners. The racing pads have plenty of life in them. but squeak a lot during road use. They also produce a lot of brake dust. The more road-friendly pads that they replaced are included in the sale. and are nearly brand new. as can be seen in the pictures. In the next few days I will be flushing the brake system with ATE Type 200 racing brake fluid. Rounding out the chassis upgrades are the wheels and tires. The rims are genuine BBS CHs size 81/2J x 18H2. and the tires are Continental Extreme Contacts size 245/35 ZR 18 on all four corners. giving the M3 much more grip and reduced understeer. At the current ride height. the rear tires do rub slightly with two large people in the rear seats. There is also a K&N cold air intake and Supersprint cat-back exhaust system installed. I'm not sure what the power and torque benefits of these are. but the combination of these two sound spectacular. while not being unnecessarily loud. There is. however. some drone at moderate to high loads under 2-2. 5k rpm. The final performance modification is that the rubber pads on the brake and clutch pedals have been replaced by rough grip tape. which is extremely helpful. The rubber pads are included. and can be easily replaced. The factory head unit has been replaced with Pioneer unit with audio inputs and bluetooth connectivity. The paint is mostly perfect. There are some chips on the front of the car from small rocks kicked up on the road. one large scratch over the driver's door handle. that should be visible in the pictures. and a few other small scratches. There are three dings that are about the size of a quarter. One is on the hood. one is on the driver's door. and the third one is just behind the passenger's side door. The rest of the exterior looks brand new. as you can see in the pictures. The interior does look slightly worn. on average. The rear seats and rear carpet look brand new. the passenger seat and carpet look slightly worn. and the driver's seat looks quite worn. while the driver's side carpet looks slightly worn. Finally. the headliner is sagging behind the sunroof. There are no rips or tears anywhere besides the one large tear in the driver's seat. as seen in the pictures.
