FOR SALE IS MY 1962 BUICK LESABRE HEARSE
I BOUGHT THIS HEARSE BACK IN 2008 FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. HAD IT TRAILERED TO PORTLAND OREGON WHERE IT HAS BEEN SINCE. I FOUND OUT SOME INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT THIS CAR AND WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THEM.
FIRST OF ALL, HE VEHICLE WAS MADE BY THE FLXIBLE COMPANY IN OHIO. WHEN IT WAS TO BE SHIPPED TO HOLLYWOOD CALIFORNIA, T WAS SOLD WITH "REDI-AIRE" THAT MEANT THAT THE HOLES WERE CUT INTO THE FIREWALL BY THE FACTORY AND COVERED WITH PLATES/SCREWS IN TRANSIT. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED, HE MORTUARY WAS TO FINISH THE PAINT, PHOLSTER IT AND INSTALL THE A/C WHEN IT WAS NEARLY DONE. AN A/C RADIATOR WAS INSTALLED, AN SHROUD AND THE REDI-AIRE PLATES INSTALLED BUT NEVER REMOVED.
BUT, OMETHING HAPPENED AS THE A/C WAS NEVER COMPLETED. WE DIDN'T KNOW WHY UNTIL WE FOUND SOME BUSINESS CARDS FROM "ABBOTT AND HAST MORTUARY" WERE UNDER THE SEAT. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH OF THE MORTUARY, ND THAT'S WHERE MARILYN MONROE WAS PLACED WHEN SHE DIED BACK IN, OU GUESSED IT..1962!
EXCITED, CALLED RON HAST OWNER OF THE MORTUARY IN 1962. I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD SUCH A PINK HEARSE IN 1962. HE ASKED IF IT WAS "HOT PINK" OR "DEEP PINK" I TOLD HIM "NO", ND HE ASKED IF THE VEHICLE WAS ALMOST WHITE IN COLOR. I TOLD HIM YES. HE THEN STATED THAT HE OWNED SUCH A HEARSE AND THAT IF HE COULD GET THE ORIGINAL CALIFORNIA PLATE NUMBER, E COULD TELL ME WHO WAS DELIVERED IN THAT VEHICLE BACK IN 1962. UNFORTUNATELY THE ORIGINAL BLACK PLATES WERE NO LONGER ON THE VEHICLE WHEN I RECEIVED THE CAR.
HE THEN TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS A "PREMIER" MODEL SINCE IT HAS VIEWING GLASS ALL THE WAY AROUND, O LANDAU BARS. THAT WAS SO PEOPLE COULD SEE THE COFFIN IN THE BACK TO PAY THEIR RESPECTS.THEIR WAS ANOTHER HEARSE MADE IN 1962 THAT WAS A "PREMIER" BUT THAT ONE WAS NOT STRETCHED, AKING THIS ONE OF ONE!
IT WAS ALSO PURCHASED AS A "LUXURY" MODEL SINCE IT WAS STRETCHED OVER 3 FEET.
HE THEN TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED BECAUSE THEY KNEW THE ACTRESS'S FROM THE 20'S, 0'S, ND 40'S WERE GOING TO BEGIN PASSING AWAY AND THEY WANTED A "FEMALE ONLY" VEHICLE WITH STYLE. SO THEY ORDERED THE BEST THEY HAD. HE ALSO TOLD ME THATABBOTT AND HAST DID THEIR OWN PAINTING AND INTERIOR FOR THE CARS TO THEIR LIKING.
IN THE CARS FINAL TRANSFORMATION, UCH AS PAINT AND INTERIOR... MARILYN MONROE PASSED AWAY. SO THEY PAINTED THE VEHICLE PINK AS THAT WAS HER FAVORITE COLOR.(GEORGE BARRIS TOLD ME THAT AS HE PAINTED HER PINK CADILLAC)THEY WERE ATTEMPTING TO FINISH THE VEHICLE, UT BECAUSE OF THE PUBLIC OUTCRY TO FINISH HER BURIAL, ND THEY WERE WEEKS AWAY FROM FINISHING IT THEY DECIDED TO GO WITH THE BLACK HEARSE THAT WAS USED IN THE VIDEO FOOTAGE.
SO, FTER USING THE HEARSE FOR MANY YEARS, T WAS RETIRED AND PURCHASED BY A TRUE HEARSE COLLECTOR PAUL NIX. HE KEPT, ESTORED AND SOLD ULTRA RARE HEARSES IN THE USA.
ACCORDING TO THE STORAGE FACILITY- "ABOUT 30+ YEARS AGO, AUL NIX PLACED 5 CADILLAC HEARSES AND THIS RARE BUICK HEARSE IN A DRY STORAGE UNIT JUST OUTSIDE OF HOLLYWOOD CALIFORNIA. THERE THIS CAR SAT IN THE HOT SUN FOR THAT LONG TIME. ONE OF HIS FRIENDS WANTED THE CAR, O PAUL NIX RELUCTANTLY SOLD IT TO HIM. BUT THEY LOST THE TITLE. SO THE STORAGE FACILITY SOLD IT VIA HIGHEST BIDDER FOR STORAGE SINCE NEITHER PAUL NIX OR HISFRIENDCOULD REMOVE IT SINCE THEY HAD NO TITLE. THERE IS CAME TO REST IN PORTLAND OREGON WHERE IT SITS NOW.
SINCE ACQUIRING THIS BEAUTY, DID THE FOLLOWING:
I REPLACED ALL BRAKE SHOES, HEEL/BRAKE CYLINDERS EVERYTHING IS NEW, HEY WORK GREAT!
REMOVED AND CLEANED OUT FUEL TANK, LL WORKS GREAT INCLUDING SENDING UNIT! (20 GALLON)
GOT MOTOR RUNNING. ALL IT NEEDED WAS FRESH FUEL, EW POINTS AND A CARB KIT. IT RAN REALLY SMOOTH AND HADABSOLUTELYNO SMOKE! THIS IS A TRUE BUICK! I DROVE FOR 2 YEARS THEN REPLACED CAM/LIFTERS WITH A "THUMPER" GRIND. I DID THIS BECAUSE I WANTED MY ORIGINAL UNREBUILT BUICK MOTOR TO SOUND AS GOOD AS A MUSCLE CAR AND TO GET THE "BITCHINRIDE" RESPONSE FROM OTHERS. BTW, T WORKED!
I UPDATED THE 2 BBL CARB TO A HOLLEY 600 4 BBL ELECTRIC CHOKE, nbsp;SO IT REALLY SCOOTS!
I THEN DID A TRANS SWAP. I HAVE DONE THIS TO ALL OF MY 9+ BUICK I HAVE OWNED IN THE PAST SINCE 1982. I PULLED OUT THE DYNAFLOW AND INSTALLED A 1965 BUICK T400 SWITCH PITCH TRANS. I ALSO INSTALLED A 2200 STALL CONVERTER AND A SHIFT KIT FOR FIRMNESS TO HELP MOVE THE 5500 LBS! FRESH DRIVELINE, ARROWED CROSSMEMBER, EW TRANS COOLER LINES, E FLEXPLATE, EAR REDUCTION STARTER... I DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.
EXHAUST IS NEW. IT'S A DUAL EXHAUST WITH 2 1/4" TUBING AND 40 SERIES FLOWMASTERS!
THE REAR END 2:73 GEARS WERE REPLACED WITH FACTORY 3:42 GEARS WITH A DETROIT LOCKER DIFFERENTIAL.THE DIFF CARRIER SECTION ALONE WAS OVER $1000!
THE INTERIOR UP FRONT WAS UPGRADED. I HAD THE SEAT REUPHOLSTERED, EADLINER, OOR PANELS AND VISORS REDONE AND THE CARPET INSTALLED AS WELL. I ALSO TOOK OUT THE CARPET IN BACK REPLACED WITH NEW. SINCE THE VINYL ON THE INSIDE BACK WAS GOOD AND ORIGINAL, JUST CLEANED IT AND LEFT IT ALONE.
I INSTALLED A STEREO IN THE DASH AND TWO AMPS UNDER THE SEAT. THE REAR HAS 4 SPEAKERS MOUNTED IN THE SIDES AS WELL AS 2 12" WOOFERS IN A BOX IN THE BACK. THIS CAR CRANKS! ALSO IN THE BACK IS RED/BLUE POLICE LIGHTS AND NEON PINK LIGHTS IN THE SIDE WINDOWS! BITCHIN AT NIGHT! LOTS OF LOOKS, ERIOUSLY!
I WOULD TAKE THIS TO PARADES, AR SHOWS AND OF COURSE...HALLOWEEN HAUNTED HOUSES. I MADE A COFFIN OUT OF A WATERBED FRAME AND PUT FULL SIZED SKELETONS INSIDE IT. WE WERE ONE OF THE STARS OF THE SHOW, SPECIALLY WHEN "THRILLER" PLAYED ON THE SPEAKERS. KIDS AND PARENTS ALIKE WOULD JUST DANCE TO HIS MUSIC, AKE PICTURES OF OUR VEHICLE, T WAS GREAT.
I AM SELLING BECAUSE A MORTICIAN FROM MY AREA GAVE ME A 1929 MODEL A HEARSE TO FINISH AS HE RAN OUT OF TIME. HE PASSED AWAY AUGUST OF 2015. I AM FINISHING THE CAR AS A TRIBUTE TO HIM AND HIS WIFE. I DON'T HAVE THE ROOM FOR 2 HEARSES AND I NEED THE MONEY TO FINISH THE 29'

Forgot to mention, had the front sway bar replaced from the stock 5/8" bar, o a 1 1/16th" bar. And a rear 1" bar was installed into the back. This car drives like it's on rails!
Tires were also purchased brand new 3 years ago. They are 2" white walls that are on the original 15" rims. They hardly have any wear on them. Also, his car drives maybe 100 miles per year and has had full coverage insurance just in case this rare car gets hit.

I HAD A FEW PEOPLE ASKING ME ABOUT PICTURES OF THE UNDERSIDE FOR RUST ISSUES AS MOST CADILLACS DID NOT DO SO WELL. I WENT UNDER THE CAR TODAY 12/6/2015 AND TOOK A VIDEO WITH MY CELL PHONE OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE. I TOTALLY FORGOT THAT WHEN I PRESSURE WASHED THIS CAR IN 2008, HAT I FOUND ABSOLUTELY NO RUST UNDER THE VEHICLE. YOU SEE, HEN FLXIBLE DID THEIR CUTTING THE CAR IN HALF AND REASSEMBLED IT, HEY SHOT SUPER THICK UNDERCOATING UNDER THE VEHICLE. THEREFORE THE FLOORBOARDS ARE NOT RUSTY AT ALL! THERE IS A SLIGHT RUSTING WHERE THE PINCH WELDS ARE IN THE BACK AS PEOPLE IN THE 60'S AND 70'S HAD NO WAY TO PICK THIS BEAST UP AS THEIR WERE NO 4 POST LIFTS BACK THEN.
THE VIDEO SHOWS THE ENGINE BAY WITH THE "READY-AIRE", /C RADIATOR AND THAT THE VIN PLATE MATCHES THE ENGINE. IT IS THE ORIGINAL ENGINE, EVER REBUILT! THAT'S A BUICK FOR YOU!
I FORGOT TO SHOW THAT WHEN YOU OPEN EITHER REAR DOOR BEHIND THE DRIVER, HERE IS A STORAGE COMPARTMENT UNDER THE COFFIN FLOORING. ITS ROUGHLY 5-6 FEET WIDE AND 3-4 FEET LONG. YOU CAN REACH FROM ONE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE TO THE OTHER. WE PUT 2 FOLDING CHAIRS IN THERE WHEN WE GO TO CAR SHOWS. PLUS, EHIND THE DRIVERS SEAT, HE HEADREST AREA LIFTS UP, ND BEHIND THE SEAT IS ANOTHER STORAGE AREA PLUS THE SPARE TIRE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. AND ONE LAST THING, N THE COFFIN AREA WHERE THE TOP OF THE COFFIN IS POINTED, HEIR IS ANOTHER STORAGE BIN. LOTS OF STORAGE!
