Description

1971 El Camino 350SS. I'm not going to tell you this is a "tribute" SS or a "clone" as it's as close to what it would have been that year had it been ordered as such. Chevelle VIN numbers of those years are pretty hard to determine if in fact you're getting a true SS unless you have the build sheet to go with it. This car began life as a Custom. with a bench seat. "sweep" speedometer. column shift and warning lights. It was ordered however with some unique options for more or less a base model as it was produced with factory air conditioning. front disc brakes. and a 12 bolt rear end. It was an Arizona car for most of it's life having been delivered new in Tucson in 1971. We purchased it about 15 years ago with less than 100k original miles on it and used it as a backup daily driver until getting serious about restoring it. The intent was to replicate the SS to the greatest degree as it would have been ordered in '71. The interior was removed up to the firewall and replaced with all new SS components and instrumentation. the steering column was removed and replaced with the correct restored SS column for floor shift cars. A rebuilt climate control panel with new vacuum lines was installed. New SS dash and dash pad. new AC ducting. The correct and original "horseshoe" floor shifter and original center console installed. The correct SS bucket seats. refurbished and upholstered were installed. The correct SS wiring harnesses. firewall forward and aft installed. and that's just the interior. The body was stripped. both front fenders replaced with thick gauge aftermarket replacements. rear quarters had any and all areas of rust ( not much being an AZ car but it was there in spots ) were cut out and new sheet metal welded in. there is not an ounce of bondo in or on this car. New sheet metal panel in forward bed installed and rust areas under it repaired with new sheet metal and welded. Proper '71 vinyl top and trim installed. then the correct SS Rally wheels installed. Correct metallic blue color for '71 applied and the SS stripes painted on. not vinyl stick on's. The 350 4bbl remains as basically stock with the edition of an Edlebrock performer aluminum manifold and a later model HEI distributer. This engine has around 115k ORIGINAL miles on it. good compression. not an oil burner. and has never been apart ( to my knowledge ) in 44 years. The Turbo 350 transmission has a shift kit installed. shifts firm with no slippage and is in great shape. Obviously this is a faithful representation of a 1971 SS El Camino. with much more money spent to accomplish than the bid reserve. Bid and enjoy for years to come.
