Chevrolet's John DeLorean set out to find a way to improve the performance of the Chevrolet Vega line. This search led them to the British company Cosworth Engineering who designed a special DOHC aluminum cylinder head for Chevrolet's inline-four. However. it would take another five years before these cars would hit the street. This 1975 Chevrolet Vega Cosworth is one of the rare 2061 that were built in '75. and 1 of only 3500 that were built during the two year production run of the Cosworth Vegas. If you are looking for a way to have a rare Chevy. then you need to take a closer look at this Vega. Before you ask. its obviously not the original color. All 2. 61 '75 Cosworth Vegas left the factory covered in black acrylic lacquer with gold lettering. However. the choice to cover it in a gorgeous brown was a good one. What little chrome this car has is in fantastic shape and the gold Cosworth Twin Cam lettering that graces the front fenders and rear cove panel really play well with the paint. Little touches like the fender flares. moderate hood scoop. and the quarter panel window treatments. really distance this body style from grocery getter to serious performer. Inside. the performance theme continues. You'll instantly notice the perforated vinyl seat trim that was standard on the Cosworth Vegas. There are Camaros from this time period that don't look this good. Also standard on every Cosworth Vega was the gold colored machine-turned dash bezel. and the gold plated dash plaque with the build sequence number. In front of the driver is a Cosworth Vega branded wheel. and beyond that is what appears to be the original standard issue 8. 00 RPM gauge tachometer that is still in great shape. The black carpets are in very good contidion. and the vinyl shows little to no wear. Air conditioning has been added to increase the in cabin comforts as well. This interior doesn't disappoint. but it's what's under the hood that will stop people in their tracks. Tilt the hood forward and you'll reveal a numbers matching 122ci Cosworth Vega. fuel injected Twin-Cam. inline-four with a die-cast aluminum alloy cylinder block. Attached to the block is the DOHC Cosworth 16-valve cylinder head. The only liberties taken have been welcome ones: the addition of an aluminum radiator. MSD ignition. and a Delco Remy distributor. Rated conservatively at 110hp. this engine was no slack. Car and Driver was able to push a Cosworth Vega from 0-60 in just 7. 7 seconds. the fastest of that particular year. Bolted to the very peppy engine is a four-speed manual transmission that sends power to the ground through 13" rims that have been wrapped in Kenetica Kenda Radial rubber.
