Imagine peeling back the top on this gorgeous 1960 roadster and hitting the road for adventure. the song of the 283 burbling behind you. your best lady by your side. and everyone you pass is wishing they were you. Motoring doesn't get much better than that. This Ermine White convertible is classic early Corvette. perfect in detailing and proportion. and elegantly styled by the best in the business during the '50s. The menu was extensive in 1960. with 3717 customers selecting the Ermine White finish seen on this lovely roadster and making it by far the most popular color that year. Subject to a high-quality repaint not too long ago. it is simply spectacular in person. sitting comfortably on the border between high-quality driver and show-quality trailer queen. Subtle and sophisticated. the Ermine White captures the essence of Corvette without being brash about it. Fiberglass work is extremely well done. with surfaces that are far straighter and flatter than they were when the car was new and modern technology gives it a gloss that was only a fantasy in 1960. The chrome trunk "straps" were gone. but there's still plenty of brightwork to give this Corvette real flash. and all of it has been beautifully refinished. including the toothy front grille and intricate rear bumpers with exhaust outlets in their centers. Contrasting side coves were not part of the 1960 package. so the trim speaks for itself and I think I like the monochromatic look even better. The contrasting turquoise vinyl interior is almost as nice as the bodywork. with only light signs of use since it was restored. The buckets are firm and supportive. the carpets are fresh. and the three-spoke steering wheel would look right at home in a vintage racer. The door panels are beautifully rendered in two-tone turquoise vinyl with bright engine-turned inserts and stylish armrests that suggest someone at GM worked overtime to make them look so good. Gauges are comprehensive. with a 6500 RPM redline tachometer and domed speedometer that puts everything in the driver's line of sight. Who says the '50s were about style over ergonomics? The original Wonderbar AM radio remains in the dash right above the heater controls and clock. and the 4-speed shifter sits neatly on the transmission tunnel. Overhead there's a white convertible top that stows easily behind the seats. where it disappears under a hard tonneau cover and lovely "waterfall" between the seats. The 283 cubic inch V8 is topped by a 4-barrel carburetor and was fully rebuilt and detailed 569 miles ago. Chevy Orange paint. gorgeous cast aluminum valve covers. and plenty of chrome distinguish the high-level Corvette engine from lesser small blocks. and it runs even better than it looks. Correct accessories. including the generator. have been installed and it all works superbly. A 4-speed manual transmission was an extra-cost item. but what self-respecting Corvette owner would be caught without one? Underneath it's clean but not detailed for show. with a great-sounding dual exhaust system and a suspension that's supple enough to enjoy without feeling like it's beating you up. It sits right and rides on vintage-looking 205/75/15 wide whitewall radials for improved handling. Call it a C1 or a solid-axle. but there's no denying that Corvettes like this are something special and I assure you that it's every bit as fun to drive as you've imagined.
