Description

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Coupe
Factory built replica car by D&D Manufacturing out of Akron, hio in 1995
This is not a typical kit car or special construction. It is a factory built car built from a mold off the original Grand Sport # 003 car. Professionally done and title as a 1963 Model. There is not to many of these Grand Sport Reproductions that can say that!
THE PICTURES DO NOT DO THIS CAR JUSTICE! THE FINISH AND UNDERCARRIAGE STILL LOOKS VERY NICE AS IF IT WAS JUST FINISHED!
NO DISAPPOINTMENTS

Seldom ever seen these Grand Sport cars a quite an automobile. The fit and finish is very nice on the car. The paint, nterior, ngine compartment, nd chassis all still look nice and fresh as though the car was built recently. The car was made to resemble the iconic Grand Sport #003 1963 Corvette. There is very few D&D cars ever built and not vary many left. Approximately only 136 were ever produced before GM shut them down and sued them due to infringement rights. This car is # 034. I have complete owner history on this car dating back to when it was built along with the copy of the original MSO from D&D, itle history, nd many receipts pertaining to the build of the car. Even the original receipt on the new crate engine and transmission. A complete portfolio of the entire cars history back to when it was first ordered and finished by D&D has been put together and goes with the car. The car is still in excellent condition only being driven 1,631 miles since completion. The previous owner purchased the car back in 2012 and the car then only had 250 miles on it. The car was mostly shown and not raced. Although it could be. The performance is nothing other than amazing and the attention the car gets stops traffic everywhere you go. Even if you are not a car guy or gal you can appreciate the car and the history that it brings to the Corvette and its racing Heritage. The car does have windshield wipers, eadlights, urn signals, nd a tilt steering column for ease of entry and exit. The car sounds good, its good, ndlooks good at no matter what angle. There is some trophies as well from previous car shows that it was in. The car does have the Louvered Lexan Plexi-glass rear window and Plexi-glass side windows the roll up and down as well. The car does have a differential cooler but is currently not hooked up. The flares, ood, xposed headlights are all like the real # 003 Grand Sport. The car is completely fiberglass (re-inforced) with a full tube chassis.
MANUFACTURER: D&D CORVETTE
As the story goes, hen Chevrolet put a halt to any further production of Zora Arkus-Duntov's original 1963 Corvette Grand Sport a number of talented men who worked tirelessly on the project were suddenly found without a job. One of those men was a young chassis guru, ohn Adams, ho helped Zora "put the power to the ground, aking it handle". To show his appreciation Zora handed a coupe off to John Adam, ho promptly skipped out the back door with it. Some years later after Mr. Adams had retired to Ohio he heard that Dean Hoskins of D&D Corvette of Akron was trying to build a replica of the Grand Sport. He quietly made a deal with Dean to design a special Corvette C-4 Chassis that would work with the replica, ut in payment, ean would have to restore Mr. Adams 1963 Corvette Grand Sport. Of course Dean agreed and when he was done, e made a mold from that original car that would ultimately become the replica.
VIN # DDGS034According to an article in the "The Cleveland (Ohio) Plain Dealer" there are only 22 known replica 1963 Corvette Grand Sport's built specifically by D&D Corvette left in the United States. It wasn't until the mid-to late 90's that D&D began consistently assigning and then installing uniform VIN plates on the driver's side hinge pillar and one on the left side motor mount. All replicas with actual VIN numbers followed the same pattern, DGS###. Therefore, xpect for those produced prior to the installation of VIN plates, his particular replica was the 34th built by D&D.

1963 CORVETTE GRAND SPORT HISTORY
In early 1962 Corvette Chief Engineer, ora Arkus Duntov, egan top secret work on a Corvette purpose-built race car to win Sebring and Le Mans and more specifically--to put an end to the humiliating losses Chevrolet had suffered at the hands of Carroll Shelby and his Cobras.
The envisioned Grand Sport would be the ultimate Corvette, lightweight, remendously powerful factory built racer. It was specifically designed to blow the hoods off the impressive stable of Shelby's Cobras, nd if the Ferrari's and Ford GT 40's were also left in the dust, o much the better.
After the prototypes had proven their mettle-and metal- 125 production street bears were scheduled to be unleashed. In a story of what might have been, t never happened....
When executives from Chevrolet's boardroom learned of Zora's secret program, hey mysteriously put a stop to the cars construction--but they couldn't stop the five Grand Sports already built. An neither could the competition. From 1963 to 1967, he cars tore up the racetracks. And even after that, hey continued to see duty and put up an excellent showing at races around the country and even overseas. Over the years the Grand Sport has been driven by famed contemporary race drivers such as Roger Penske, .J. Foyt, im Hall, nd Dick Guldstrand among others. Dick Thompson was the first driver to win a race in the Grand Sport. He won a 1963 Sports Car Club of America race at Watkins Glen on August 24,1963 driving the Grand Sport 004.
The Grand Sports were raced with several different engines, ut the most serious factory engine used was a 377 cubic inch displacement, ll aluminum, mall block with four Weber side-draft carburetors, ated 550 H.P. at 6,400 RPM. Body panels were made of thinner fiberglass to reduce weight and the frame was constructed of amazingly light steel tubes. The Grand Sport project was known simply as "The Lightweight".
One can only wonder what would have happened if the Grand Sport was fully developed. It would have most likely challenged the coupe bodied Cobras, hich took two class victories at Le Mans. Due to their exceptional rarity, he ill-fated Grand Sport racers are the most highly sought after of all Corvettes and among the most valuable American cars in existence. This was underlined recently when one of the tow Roadsters was offered for auction where a high bid of $4.9 million was not sufficient to meet the reserve set by the vendor.
Thanks to the dedication of a few very serious collectors, ll five of the original Grand Sport Corvettes still exist to this day and while they are rarely seen beyond the confines of the occasional auto show, hey still create excitement in the minds of all those that witness these amazing automotive legends.
This is as close to a real one you can get that still is somewhat affordable. If you had an original it is to valuable to drive. With this one and being a Big Block at that, ou will have as much fun if not more than you could ever want. As rare as these D&D's are becoming you will see even these Grand Sports continue to increase in value for years to come. Everything shown is included with the sale of the car. This includes the other new set of street tires, wo additional wheels, ammer for KO Wheels, rophies, wo Signs, nd the portfolio (not shown) of many receipts and information pertaining to D&D and the first original owner.
