Description

Up for auction today is my 1971 Datsun 510 Sedan. This is a four door. The car runs. drives. shifts. stops. etc. as it should. The car does need a tune up and probably a carburetor rebuild. I bought this car about 5 years ago and had plans to restore it. but I have way to many projects and it just kept getting pushed farther back in my garage. Now it looks like I am going to be moving across the country and I need to sell off some of my cars. due to the cost of shipping. storage. etc. These are great cars and I truly love them. I have a slight addiction to these cars and really hate to let this car go. These cars are famous in the vintage racing circuits. especially with S. C. C. A. guys. Back in the day. Datsun 510's dominated the race tracks against cars like MG's. BMW's and Alfa Romeo's. The 4 wheel independent suspension really made these cars drive and handle better than most of the competition. I was told by the previous owner that the engine had been rebuilt before he bought it and the paint on the block and head both look fairly new. Although I've had the car for about 5 years I just haven't had the time to get much done. I did buy a brand new carpet kit and I haven't even installed it yet. but I have removed most of the ragged old carpet. These cars are notorious for the dash pad cracking and if you install a dash cap it will have a nice factory look. I've installed a couple and they look great. you can hardly tell it has a cap on it. I would rate this car at about an 8 out of 10 for a restoration project. I think the car looks better in person than in these photos. My camera is poor quality and to be honest. I didn't even dust off the car after it sitting in storage for about five years. I just dropped in a battery and once the carb got gas. it fired right up. I did fill the radiator with new coolant. nbsp;because I drained it prior to storage (didn't trust the mixture). The Transmission is a 5 speed (dogleg style). the previous owner swapped out the original 4 speed and installed the 5 speed transmission. I did some research on this car and it was a TEXAS CAR until about 2009. which is why the rust on this car is minimal. Save yourself tons of time and money and start with this car. that is much more rust free than most the unrestored 510's that are still around. The floors a good. and I've found no rusted out holes in them. with the exception of a small area under the back seat. I have included pictures of the floor pans with this listing. This car is pretty solid. considering how prone these cars were to rust and the worst rust on this car should be easily repaired. I believe most of the floor pans will clean up pretty easily with a wire wheel or light media blasting and a fresh coat of paint or undercoating. The worst damage on the car seems to be the passenger side rear quarter panel. but that section is available as a patch panel online. The best and cheapest place to buy the panel you will need is "Wolf Steel Restorations". If you google it. they will pop right up and the part currently is listed for $75 on their site. I'd provide a link to the site. but Ebay has a policy that prohibits external web links (with the exception of Youtube). The four wheel independent suspension works fine and I checked the U-Joints in the driveshaft and in both the rear half shaft axles and they all seem to be in good working order. There will be some spare parts that go with the car. I have the air filter and a few other odds and ends. One of the photos shows a door panel on the ground. That panel was removed by the previous owner. but I never got around to putting it back on. I believe it was removed. because the drivers window is loose and needs a new felt piece installed in the window track. The car has alloy 280zx wheels on it. and I think they look nice. but could use a little polishing. The tires are in decent shape and probably have 75% tread still on them. I can tell you that when I bought this car. I drove it over a thousand miles to get it home and had no issues. but that has been over 4 years ago. I highly recommend you tow. nbsp;trailer or ship this car. mainly because it's not been on the road in several years and should have a serious going over before driving it. to be safe. The gas is old as well and I can testify that if you keep running the old gas in this car. it will probably damage the engine. I made the mistake of running a full 20 gallon tank of old fuel through a truck and it ruined the engine. The fuel should be pumped or drained out. before you do much driving with this car. I WILL NOT END THE AUCTION EARLY FOR CASH OFFERS. SO BID TO WIN. IF YOU WANT THIS CAR. I have uploaded a video of the car as well. it's just a basic walk around. with the car idling. so you can actually hear that it does run. If the video doesn't appear on the screen. just click on the link below to watch it. https://youtu. be/4--0H5aVomMDON'T BID ON THIS CAR. IF YOU DON'T INTEND TO PAY FOR IT! IF YOU WIN THIS AUCTION THE CAR IS YOURS. EBAY FEES ARE COSTLY AND IF YOU DON'T PAY. I STILL HAVE THE FEES TO DEAL WITH. Thank you for looking. and happy bidding.
