Description

Picture this: The restoration of my 72 Pantera was taking too long. During the restoration. I was driving our spare car. a 2006 Honda Insight. The Insight gets 70+ mpg. which is impressive. but it sucks the testosterone out of your body. If you thought minivans were bad. try driving a car with 73HP. I would rather drive a pink VW with Hello Kitty decals and a big bumper sticker that says. "I like boys". I bought this Viper to regain my masculinity. It worked. Everyone needs to own a car like this at least once in their life. Women will not flock to your doors. but you will drive with a smile. and traffic will "make a hole" for you. Be prepared to answer. "How much does it cost?" questions at gas stations. Vipers are not what you would think. They get 19-20mpg on the highway. which is better than most SUVs. Insurance is not crazy expensive. They are comfortable. even on long trips. Everything is overbuilt because Dodge didn't want them coming back for warranty work. Some people drive them to the track. beat on them all day. and drive them back again. I have not tracked this car hard. It has been a daily driver for 4 years. It is a nice stress relief after a long day at work. Do yourself a favor and watch the video on Jay Leno's garage on his Vipers. He nails it pretty well. This Viper has been well cared for. but it has all of the small nicks that go with a daily driver. If you want a perfect car. look for one with under 5. 00 miles. They are out there. But don't drive it hard. because something will fail. They call them garage queens for a reason. They look perfect in the garage. but when you push them hard. that hose that has been dry rotting for 10 years lets go. When I started searching for a Viper. I quickly discovered that I wanted a Gen-2 in Sapphire Blue with silver stripes. Unfortunately. they are hard to find. Dodge only made Sapphire Blue Vipers for 1 year. and they only made 77 with the ACR option. This is a stunning color combination. and it is also quite rare. Known issues: There are no known mechanical issues. It has been recently serviced with no mechanical issues discovered. There are small nicks here and there in the paint. which is typical on a car with 48. 00 miles. There is a scuff in the paint in the front right. Two pics are included. Upgrades: The stock Gen-2 exhaust sounds better than the Gen-1 exhaust. but it still isn't quite right for the car. This car has Bellanger headers. Random Tech high flow cats. and 3" Corsa exhaust. This exhaust is consistently rated as the best sounding. Dodge should have made this exhaust standard equipment. It is about $5000 plus labor. so you need to consider this when buying a Viper. If you want the best sounding exhaust. buy a car with it already installed. Stock Vipers force you to shift from 1st to 4th unless you are over a certain speed. This was considered a fuel saving mandatory option. It can be pretty annoying and you never really get used to it. This car has a skip shift eliminator to avoid this "feature". My only regret is not doing it sooner. Gen-2 ACR Vipers came with 1300 lb/in springs in the rear. which is way too stiff. even on a track. I switched to 800 lb/in springs. which is perfect for a track car. It is still a little stiff for the street. The original 1300 lb/in springs are included. Why am I selling? I have 3 hobby cars. and I need the room - both money and in the garage. If I had a larger garage. I would keep the Viper.
