Description

1938 Ford Model 81A Deluxe Fordor Torpedo Sedan

Superbly executed Deluxe Fordor Torpedo Back Sedan! Remains largely original and heavily optioned, ncluding factory original 81A 221ci Flathead V8, lectric clock, umper guards, nd more! It has a stunning body and great moonshiner appeal for those Prohibition Era enthusiasts! Awesome example throughout!

It was no surprise that Ford was continuing its success after the Great Depression with the introduction of the Flathead V8 power plant leading the way after 1932. It remained relatively inexpensive and powerful, ith a host of body styles and options to choose from. By 1937, he famous and incredibly reliable Flathead V8 was yet again improved with the relocation of the water pumps from the heads to the engine block, nd the water inlet now feeding into the center of the heads. This allowed for better overall cooling. Interestingly, ord was developing new 24-stud heads for 1938 with just slightly lower compression, ut would provide the exact same 85p along with slightly improved torque specs to 146 lb. ft. for late 1938 production vehicles. It would be the final iteration of the 221ci V8 Flathead, long with 1938 introducing a new dash with recessed controls and center grill speaker location. And for Deluxe models, totally revised exterior appearance with curved grill outline with horizontal bars with separate side louvers with matching horizontal bars would be implemented.

We are very pleased to represent this 1938 Ford Deluxe Model 81A Fordor Torpedo Back Sedan. It comes finished in a professionally applied high gloss Black with a mild metallic blue clear coat to highlight the body just perfectly! You have to look closely if out of the natural light of the sun to see this wonderful blue overtone, t’s just gorgeous! Inside, he fully refinished brown cloth upholstery is as equally well executed, nd visually appealing, rom the headliner to the fully carpeted floor covering. Options and features include original 81A 221ci V8 Flathead, -speed floor-shifted manual transmission, eautiful faux wood grained dash and door garnish moldings, ent tube trumpet horns, anjo steering wheel, enting front door side windows, ear quarter vent windows, love box with electric clock, adio delete plate, earview mirror, ully function factory Ford instrumentation, ear seat foot rests, xterior bumper guards, ual windshield wipers, nd wheel trim rings on factory 16” artillery steel wheels fitted with 6.00-16 4-ply Allstate Super Safety Tread black wall tires! We would like to add that the front windshield glass remains 1937 date-coded, hile the side glass showcases 1938 date codes!

It is a remarkably wonderful driver with easy starts with just a slight use of the choke on the Chandler-Groves 94 downdraft carburetor. Being the last year of the mechanical braking system, his vehicle continues to stop as well as any hydraulic brakes system we’ve driven. The transmission shifts crisply and without any sloppiness, nd the clutch engagement lacks any chatter whatsoever! The engine provides swift power with only slight valve train noise typical of a well-built Flathead. The only addition to the car in a custom fashion would be the turn signals. It hails most recently from an elderly Ford enthusiast who sadly grew too old to enjoy this outstanding Torpedo Sedan the way he wished. To his credit for enduring through a proper restoration, nd his impeccable maintenance, e only had to change the oil and replace the air cleaner filter, nd then upgrade the radiator hoses to Ford scripted style with new clamps only by choice to enhance the engine presentation. It has been wonderfully detailed inside and out, nd should prove to be one of the best deals on our showroom for the money! Act quickly before we decide to keep this one!
