MotoeXotica Classic Cars rarely says “one of a kind”, ut this tastefully done and very stylish 1929 Ford Model A sedan hot rod is a true ground-up custom creation. A lot of people gravitate to this hot rod in our showroom due to it’s impressive and attractive presence, ts a Real Hot Rod! A lot of quality work, abor, nd fabrication has gone into this all steel one-of-a-kind build. Some images stick in our minds forever, nd childhood impressions can be some of the strongest. The previous owner saw a Model A in a barn when he was 12 years old and has wanted one ever since. That image remained with him until adulthood, hough he never acted upon it…until now.

The owner started the project as a rat rod but couldn’t stop there . He had just two rules during the project; it had to have a back seat and it couldn’t have a shiny paintjob. Since he painted cars for a living, is friends said there was no way he would not be able to paint it. While the flat black paint was a no-brainer, e just couldn’t build a rat rod, o the project was renamed ‘Real Hot Rod’!

First he and a friend set about fabricating a new chassis from 3×2 steel box section, ith a 3-inch kick up in the front and a 12-inch Z in the rear, o achieve the desired ultra-low ride height. A ’41 Ford axle with ’39 brakes were mounted on a split wishbone out in front of the sectioned ’32 grill with Pete & Jakes springs behind them. He then fabricated ladder bars and Panhard bar locate a Ford 9-inch rearend on Aldan coilovers.

The owner installed new floors throughout, nstalled 3 inches higher than stock to channel the body and is brought closer to the pavement with a 5-inch chop. The windshield frame was cut, ut still can be opened, lus all new glass installed. A 1932 speedway grille shell and insert were sectioned 41/2 inches. 1934 commercial headlights were mounted on the frame while stock model A taillights had their stands cut down and molded in to the body. Finished in BASF Black base and matte clear coat this 1929 sedan has a stunning satin Hot Rodder’s finish!

Inside, he custom front and rear red one-off vinyl seats look absolutely fantastic. The custom matching door panels are covered in the same brilliant vinyl and add to the overall theme complimenting the interior. Black cut pile carpet covers the entire floor. The LimeWorks sprint car-style steering wheel is attached to a cut-down ’41 steering column. Where there was once a stock gauge panel there is now a pair of TPI tech gauges. A long Gennie shifter with a Tikki head shift knob exits through the transmission tunnel.

This hot rod Ford is equipped with a ’76 350cid Chevrolet V8 engine with Keith Black pistons and a Crane PowerMax cam. Fuel is fed by a Barry Grant Six shooter intake system, ibbed O’Brian Truckers air cleaners sitting on top of the three Demons with ribbed matching Cal Customs valve covers. Custom owner-fabricated straight pipe headers, ith baffles for the neighbors. The engine is kept cool with a Walker radiator. Power is transferred to the wheels by TH350 automatic transmission with a B&M shifter and Holeshot converter. The driver assist features include 4-wheel ’39 Lincoln drum brakes and four link rear suspension. The rims are Wheel Vintiques smoothie steelies painted interior matching red, ith, 00-16 Firestone wide whitewall bias-plies tires in the front and 750-16 in the rear.

It could be easy to dismiss this sedan as another flat black hot rod, hat being said, he level of detail and build quality confirms it’s anything but. More proof of that is, his sedan participated in the 2009 Hot Rod of the Year competition at Goodguys, ndianapolis and featured in the June 2011 edition of ROD & CUSTOM magazine! You just HAVE TO check it out when you see it in person! GET OUT AND RIDE !!!
