Description

A hard to find "A" code ( 4 barrel 289) 4 speed manual transmission convertible. I bought this car as a winter project for summer enjoyment but have been notified I may be transferred - out of the country. so I cannot take the car with me and must sell it. If you are looking for a great car with most of the hard work already done and at a great price - this is the car for you. This car is NOT a restored car its probably a 7 out of 10 and is priced accordingly. It is however a great car to either drive "as-is" or do some work on. This is an eastcoast Mustang. It has the usual rust that all these cars have in all the usual places. The car must have had a restoration sometime in its past as the torque boxes have been patched . the floor pans however are good. Unless you are intending to do a full on restoration the torque boxes do not need to be replaced. strengthening patches . available from all the Mustang suppliers are sufficient. The paint and body are "ten footers". the color is not original ( it was Cherry Red) . the paint is servicable but has some chips. The top is servicable but really should be replaced. mileage shows 24. 45 but unknown if original. The original engine and transmission had been removed sometime in the cars' past. The door panels are in good condition but were removed to allow me to clean out the door bottoms. Now for the "Good". New shocks. a brand new drive shaft with new slip yoke and rear u-joint. a freshened 1988 Mustang 5. 0 motor dressed out to look like a 289. with a new edelbrock 1406 carb. new 80 Amp alternator. custom made serpentine belt drive. new water and fuel pumps. all new water hoses. new Pertronix distributor and chrome coil. new under hood gauge/starter wiring harness. new aluminum HD radiator with electric fan. mini starter. new tires. new clutch. ew pressure plate and new throwout bearing. All new clutch linkage. super low mileage Mustang T5 5 speed transmission with "classic" shifter handle. short throw aftermarket shifter and custom transmission mount. The prior owner replaced the brake lines. front drums and brakes. There are also what appears to be recent ball joint replacements. The trunk is not all rusted out. The dual exhaust is new with turbo mufflers. The interior is in very good condition with an recently installed carpet. All the glass is good with the exception of the front windshield which has a vertical crack. I purchased but have not yet installed a brand new complete heater box assembly. The radio. speaker. ash tray and heater controls are not installed but of course come with the car. They were removed in order to clean and check all the underdash areas. All the guages and speedometer work. The car runs great. has lots of power and you can drive it with no problems. The transmission shifts smoothly and has no problems. I could install everything myself but the price would go up accordingly. If you dont mind doing a little wrenching in order to save thousands of dollars on the purchase price this is what you are looking for. The car just needs to be finished up and is priced as such. The engine was a low mileage 5. 0 removed from a 1988 mustang. New bearings. new oil pump. ARP oil pump drive shaft. new one piece oil pan gasket. new oil pan sump pick up. new double row timing chain and gears. 289 timing cover. new mechanical fuel pump eccentric kit. polished aluminum oil pan. new water and fuel pump. new stainless steel fuel line. 1966 OEM 4 barrel manifold. new edelbrock 1406 ( electric choke) carb. new throttle linkage. new pertronix billet distributor with new chrome coil. new spark plugs and wires. new underhood gauge feed and starter harness. new 80 amp alternator with HD regulator. custom serpentine belt drive. ew Power Dyne harmonic balancer. new rear main seal. new convertible engine mounts. the clutch linkage is all new; new equalizer ( z-bar). new 5. 0 clutch stud bellhousing adaptor mount kit. new z bar bushings. new push rod. new 10" clutch. new throw out bearing. new clutch fork. new pressure plate. new custom built drive shaft with new slip yoke and rear u-joint. custom transmount with e-brake mount ( the ebrake works!) . new rubber transmission mount. low mileage Mustang T5 World Class transmission with new front/rear seals. new aftermarket short throw shifter. new "classic look" shift handle and knob. new transmission shifter boot. new Flowmaster exhaust downpipes. new Turbo mufflers. new tail pipes. all the eletrical items work ( turnsignals. head and tail lights. ipers. heater motor etc) except the horn. The top shows wear. can be used but would be better if replaced. The car was restored sometime in the past as evidenced by the paint and torque box repairs. no dents. no visable rust but a 10 foot paint job. . overall a car worthy of being driven and enjoyed with very little additional work. If you want the heater box installed and the heater hooked up contact me. The interior has no rips or tears and is in good condition. the carpet is new. the dash pad shows some warping in the corners otherwise it is serviceable as is. The car also has a heavy duty export brace as well as the convertible cowl braces. On Mar-07-15 at 05:24:37 PST. seller added the following information:I appreciate all the interest in my car but this is NOT a restored or all original unmolested car. if it was it would be listed for $35. 00. 00 to $40. 00. 00 or more as others like that on ebay are. this is a car that has survived the harsh east coast evironment but not without some damage. the car has the hallmarks of having been worked on sometime in the past. the torque boxes . floor pans etc have been repaired which is typical of a car from this area. the car was most likely at some point completely stripped down and worked on as evidenced by the complete color change paint job including the door jams. door bottoms. trunk. underside of hood . runk etc which you cannot due unless you disassemble the majority of the car in order to paint and repair it properly. this is especially true when you change a cars' color. Ive tried to describe the car as best as I could and I have priced it fairly based on its condition. As stated in the ad. you can leave everything as is and just drive it. On Mar-07-15 at 08:12:51 PST. seller added the following information:I have posted additional pictures of the door bottoms . the underside of the car and the trunk. Unfortunately thepictures are not as good as I would have liked. There is no visable rust on the bottom of the passenger door. the drivers door bottom has a few small surface rust spots were the door bottom meets the weatherstripping. the trunk is in overall good condition with 3 pinhole and 1 3/8" rusty areas on the passenger side rear were the spare tire would be. On Mar-08-15 at 11:30:25 PDT. seller added the following information:The Warranty ( Data ) Plate reads as follows:VIN: 6F08A189696 Assembly plant : DearbornBody: 76 A (convertible ) Engine code: 289 cid 4V 225 hp V8 Consecutive unit number: 189696 Exterior color: Candy Apple RedInterior trim: Black with Black trim Production Date: 09 December 1965 DSO: Kansas City Rear Axle Ratio: 3. 00:1 Transmission: 4-speed manualOn Mar-09-15 at 10:31:53 PDT. seller added the following information:IMPORTANT NOTICE******I decided I did not want to sell the car with such an old repair job on the torque boxes and frame kick up so I took the car back to my repair shop. Im having them completely cut out the older patches and install new heavy gauge metal for the frame kick up ( the dog leg were the frame leaves the firewall and angles up towards the front of the car). I am also having them install new DYNACORN torque box reinforcement parts and new drivers' side seat panel reinforcement. Im doing this at my own expense ( roughly $1000. 00) so there will be no problems with a buyer having misunderstood my ad. I may even have the entire underbody Rhino coated if the shop has the time. I did this because Ive been on ebay 15 years I have a 100% positive feedback rating and because of the questions Ive been getting about the car. It became obvious that a lot of people did not understand that some more work was needed and rather then sell the car under those conditions I decided to do the work . Of course my profit margin is now close to nothing when you add in the cost of the engine. transmission etc but Id rather make a few bucks with no problems then have a buyer upset. My reputation means more then an additional $1000. oo in profitt. If you decide to purchase the car please allow the time to have this work done . approximately 5-8 days from todays date. The upside is you will get a car that runs great and will be ready for you to drive without any more major work to do.
