Description

1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL Roadster

For your consideration is this truly magnificent example of the legendary R107 chassis SL with only 47,904 miles on the odometer. The beauty and classic styling of the 107 chassis was so ahead of it’s time that it was in production for nearly 30 years without any major styling changes! It is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful roadsters that Mercedes-Benz ever made and most recently collectors are beginning to appreciate the cars simple, but classic lines and advanced engineering. What makes this beauty even more unique is the extremely low mileage, with under 48,000 original and documented miles on the clock it truly is a time capsule.

I have had numerous 107’s come through the doors of my garage over the years, but this is by far the cleanest, most original and best preserved examples. The car was purchased from an elderly couple who have been the single owners of the car since 1987. During their ownership the car was religiously serviced at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership and never, ever driven in snow and I do not believe it has seen a single drop of rain in it’s lifetime. Many cars can claim to be pampered, but this SL truly was, not only was no expense spared in it’s maintenance, but it spent the majority of it’s life under TWO car covers and parked on a Persian rug.

According to service records, this SL was driven approximately 100 miles a year (essentially to the dealership for service and a safety inspection and back again).

The car is complete will all, books, manuals, hang tags, never used tool roll, unused first aid kit, four sets of keys (with original leather key pouches!)

-Exterior

The paint is simply stunning, the shine is a mile deep and is virtually blemish free. The chrome is in excellent condition, with the exception of a very small ding in the rear bumper. Structurally this Mercedes is in excellent condition, there is not so much as a spot of rust on this beauty, even the hardware (nuts, bolts and screw) show absolutely no corrosion. The undercarriage is just as clean as the body, this car was babied and garage kept for it's entire life, even though it is a lifelong New England car it has never seen rain, let alone any snow.

This roadster comes with both hard and soft top. The hard top is in great condition, and all glass is nice and clear with no hazing, the headliner is spotless, absolutely no rips or tears. The original soft top is in perfect condition as well, my understanding is that it was almost never used. The soft top’s frame is in perfect condition and operates with ease.

Rims are perfect, absolutely no curb rash and tires are in virtually brand new Continentals. The spare tire is brand new and appears to have never even been taken out of the car!

-Interior

The grey Interior is in factory fresh condition. The carpets have been covered by genuine Mercedes covers from day one and both the covers as well as the original rugs are simply perfect... no stains, wear, rips or tears. The leather seats are also in excellent condition, there is only the slightest amount of wear on the driver’s side bolster (common on any car especially Mercedes vehicles of this vintage). The chrome seat accent pieces are flawless. The dashboard is immaculate. The original Becker Grand PrixAM/FM Cassette radio still works. The wood trim is in perfect condition, there are no hairline cracks or discoloration that is common on Mercedes vehicles of this vintage. The Becker Grand Prix radio works as it should, as does the power antenna. There are no strange smells or odors which is sometimes common in older cars...as matter of fact this car brings back a lot of memories as it smells just like the brand new Mercedes my father brought home when I was young child.

-Engine & Transmission

The original 5.6 eight cylinder engine starts up on the first try and it is strong as ever. It runs and idles as it should, with no problems. The transmission shifts seamlessly through the gears with no slipping or jerking. There are no strange noises or vibrations from the engine or drive train, all you hear is the wind whipping through your hair, It drives nice and straight at any speed.
