Description

I'm selling my 1985 Mustang Convertible that I've owned and slowly upgraded since 2001. It will be tough to let it go, as I've turned every nut and bolt on this car, but we are relocating to a home with a smaller garage and I won't have winter storage, so it is time to let it go. It's a very clean car, with no rust and everything done right. It's won a First and a couple of Second Place awards at the annual Ivy Tech Mustang show. It's really the best of both worlds, as you can do some minor wrenching each spring and fall, but drive it all summer with confidence. This is the last time I'll list it, if it doesn't sell this time around, it will go into storage for a couple of years. I've listed my current location in Fort Wayne, but I can also do the transaction in Cleveland in early July, if that helps anyone out.

I've listed it as having 110,000 miles on it. The odometer shows less, but I swapped in a 140 SSP speedo a few years back, so 110,000 is my best guess.

I have a clear title, and will include a couple boxes of Fox Body parts as well. The car also includes a car cover and a convertible top boot, both in good used shape. I'm sure that I'm forgetting something, but here is a list of what I've done over the past 15+ years:

Body/Suspension/Interior

  • Base-clear in Pacific Blue (non-OEM color), done professionally 6 years ago, including underside of trunk/hood, door jambs, etc. A few imperfections, but still looks very nice on a rust-free body. I have about a half quart of paint for touch-up.
  • Custom cowl cover and rear spoiler painted to match
  • All door and trunk moldings/seals replaced when the car was painted
  • Underside cleaned and coated with POR-15, very clean
  • Welded in subframe connectors
  • Forward-facing hood scoop on a stock 1983 “bulge” hood – draws cold air onto motor while running
  • 1987-1993 “big brake” upgrade with 11” slotted rotors, larger calipers and Cobra-spec reservoir/booster
  • Strut Tower Brace
  • Newer black top with new motor
  • Police (SSP) spec 140-mph speedometer
  • SVO steering wheel w/cruise delete
  • New carpet with sound deadener installed on entire pan
  • New door sills and front seatbelt sleeves
  • New (3-year old) battery, relocated to trunk
  • Cobra R rims with 4 near new (90%+) tires
  • Super-clean interior with halo headrests
  • Kenwood AM/FM/CD/MP3 system with upgraded speakers in stock locations (nothing cut)
  • Recent complete tie rod (both) replacement and alignment

Motor

  • 5.0 HO block from an ’87 Lincoln with flat-top pistons (slightly higher compression than dished pistons)
  • GT40 heads and intake from a ’97 Explorer with a 1” spacer between upper and lower intake
  • EFI Conversion with mass-air
  • Underdrive pullies
  • 70MM throttle body with PPR spacer
  • Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
  • Cold-air intake that draws from the stock ’85 location at the bottom of the fenderwell
  • High flow Taurus electric fan on a newer 3-core radiator
  • 3G Alternator upgrade
  • MAC equal-length shorty headers, off road h-pipe, Dynomax mufflers, 2.5” stainless pipes (sounds great)
  • Hi-torque mini starter
  • A/C delete
  • Aftermarket chrome distributor
  • Accel coil
  • MSD Box with tach adapter
  • Walbro 225lph fuel pump
  • Fuel lines upgraded to all steel 89-93 routing

Drivetrain

  • World Class T-5 transmission with a Hurst short-throw shifter (the short-throw is probably my favorite upgrade)
  • Cobra –spec clutch, with a UPR Quadrant and Steeda cable/firewall adjustment
  • FRPP Aluminum Driveshaft
  • Upgraded front sway bar
  • Rebuilt 8.8 rear end w/3.55 gearing and rear sway bar

Issues

  • Top takes some work to line up and clamp shut, especially after it's been down all summer
  • Right rear window gearing is stripped, takes some help to go up/down and doesn’t seal, left rear window motor just died
  • Brake lights periodically stick on, needs a new switch installed on the pedal. You can easily clear them by "flicking" the brake pedal with your foot.

The car can be seen at my home in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Feel free to ask for more pictures, and please, please, please ask questions. I have perfect eBay feedback, and the last thing I want is for someone to feel that anything was misrepresented. The car is very clean, always gets compliments and "thumbs-up", and has won local awards, but it is not perfect by any means. It's a 32 year-old car that was given a very thorough amateur/rookie restoration, and it is faster, handles better and is more fun to drive than any Mustang that Ford made in 1985.

$500 deposit due through PayPal within 24 hours, and the balance due on pickup in 7 days. If the winning bidder arrives with the balance and the car is not what they expected, I will return their deposit on the spot and leave positive feedback.

My reserve is reasonable, and my B-I-N is less than what most V8 Fox Body convertibles are going for on eBay. I will not ship the car to Africa or the Middle East, and I won't refund the overage from the cashier's check you'd like to send me, so please don't try to hustle me.
