In July 1978 a more powerful variant. the 635CSi. was introduced (for the time not being available in North America and Japan) that featured as standard a special close-ratio 5-speed gearbox and a single piece black rear spoiler. The bigger bore and shorter stroke facilitated max 218 hp at 5200rpm and a better torque curve. In 1979 the carbureted 630CS was replaced with the 628CSi; this car had a fuel injected 2. 8L engine taken from the BMW 528i. In 1980 the 635CSi gained the central locking system that is also controlled from the trunk. as well. the E24 body style converted from L-jetronic injection to a Bosch Motronic DME. This is one of the finest examples of a 635 that I have seen. The car was imported into the USA as a European model and can be noticed by the smaller compact bumpers. the headlights with the wipers and sprayers and the labelling on the dash. which is in German. Also this Euro model never came with air conditioning but does have the other accessories. such as power steering. power brakes and a manual sun roof plus power windows. Regarding the cosmetics of the vehicle - I would not hesitate to say that it is fantastic. The Exterior paint is superb with no blemishes - the car was painted. not sure when and shows exceptional with a glass finish. The underneath of the car- floors are excellent with no rust and has preventative treatment applied. The car has the original Interior that is all leather with some tiny cracks in the leather on the drivers seat but really superficial. Good carpeting with original floor mats. Dash is all in tact with no cracking. All the gauges are in good working order. The only component that does not work is the electric antenna. Excellent trunk carpeting. plus a full tool kit. Do not be perturbed by the mileage - the motor sounds absolutely solid - I do not have any information concerning any repairs done previously and the rest of the mechanics are great and the car runs and drives excellent. The transmission shifts very smoothly when it should and the car stops immediately when the brakes are applied. Tires are good and the wheels are aftermarket and I do not have the original wheels. We had to install a catalytic converter to get the car to pass the strict California emissions test. The only issue I have noticed. is that it blows a small amount of blue smoke on a cold start up. We recently did a 150 mile road trip and the car ran excellent. The car has been smogged and serviced. There is a plate attached to the drivers side door jam showing the company who restored the car ( I have listed it with a picture). I cannot tell you when it was done. The car was titled in Texas and we do have the title in hand. For more information you can call 310-316-5300. zzzzzzzeeeee Your bid constitutes a legally binding contract to purchase this vehicle.
