1985 Mercedes 500SL Euro R107 500SL 560SL

Up for auction is my 1985 Mercedes R107 500SL Euro. The 500 is THE collector version of the R107 that is in high demand fromcollectorsin Europe.Indeed, collectorsworldwide.
The car is a 1985. As you know, eBay doesnotrecognize Grey Market VINs after 1980. The true VIN isWDB1070461A023614
This SL has spent its entire life in California. As an '85 it was manufactured shortly before the Grey Market boom shut down. It was imported by a San Francisco Baygentlemanwho flew P-51 Mustang fighters as a hobby. He obviously liked fast toys! Most 500s you'll find in the Sates are the early cars, 80-84. The 85 and later cars are very rare as the Feds and Mercedes had clamped down on the Grey Market by 1986. The launch of the 560 toreplacethe anemic 380 also cut down on market demand.
Overall, my 500SL is an honest car in need of a general freshening. The car is solid with NO rust that can be found.I've had six R107s and I've never seen one with this clean of anundercarriage. Its bone dry! The paint has faded on the trunk and along the sides. Although it looks great in the photos, it will need to be re-painted. The interior is in decent shape but the dash is cracked and the seats will need to be recovered.
The original Bosh Euro headlights are in great shape. The Euro bumpers are very nice as well. It has the rare headlight washers as well. These are a super cool euro detail not seen on US cars. The 500SL exclusive aluminum hood is in great condition with none of the usual kinks that SLs have.

My SL does have a salvage title. I was told by thepreviousowner that there was a small crunch to the front bumper in a parking lot. At the time it wasn't worth anything and the insurance company decided to total it. With Euro bumpers it doesn't take much of an impact to make an old car a total loss. I've inspected the car and can't find any evidence of crash damage. There is a little bit of rash inside the front bumper but other than that everything is straight with no evidence of repair. I've includedmultipleundercarriagepictures to show there was no damage at the front or the rear. As mentioned before, the aluminum hood is in excellent shape with no bowing from a front end impact. if you know SLs, you know any sort of front end accident often results in a bent hood.
It is California legal but we are selling it without smog certification. California buys will be responsible for passing smog. See the smog history below.
As the car does need paint and the seats redone, we've set the reserve low. However, with 500SLs being so hot, there is the buy-it now price if you want to bypass the auction and not risk loosing out!
The car is for sale locally so we reserve the right to end the auction early.

The Issues:

• Paint is faded. A repaint will be needed
• Seats are torn and will need to be recovered
• Dash has extensive cracking
• Tachometer is not working but speedometer and odometer work.

As mentioned, the car has been in California for years. Here is its smog history since 2004. It is California legal but we are selling it without smog certification. California buyers will be responsible for passing smog.
