Description

Offered for sale is gorgeous, 56k original mile, two-owner 1998 Mercedes-Benz SL600 finished in desirable Black over a two-tone Black and Grey leather interior. Sold new by Mercedes-Benz of Bellevue, WA, the original owner drove the car sparingly, accruing a mere 21k miles in the car’s first nine years of service before trading it in to its original dealership, where the car’s second and current owner acquired it.

An executive with homes in both Santa Barbara and Seattle, he kept and used the car in Washington until 2012, from which point it has been used locally here. As one of a number of cars in his garage, the car’s averaged only +/-4k miles of use per year and has always been garaged and well cared for by either the dealership service center or an excellent local independent Mercedes mechanic.

The black finish is excellent condition, deep, lustrous and marred only by a handful of imperfections, each too minor to appear in any of the photographs. The original interior is equally clean, the two tone leather seats, interior panels, carpets and dash all showing only minimal wear consistent with a well cared for, low mileage example. The car is fitted with upgraded 18” Mercedes alloy wheels wrapped in Continental tires with plenty of remaining tread and both the soft top and hard top are in great original condition.

The car also comes with a built in radar detector and a premium, dealer installed Alpine sound system with a flip out, touch screen navigation display. Also included are multiple keys, all of the original books and manuals, a removable windscreen and a clean CARFAX report.

Always properly serviced, the car is in excellent mechanical condition, the massive, 6.0L, 389hp V12 starting effortlessly, idling smoothly and pulling with incredible force when asked. That being said, the SL is also one of the smoothest, most comfortable sports cars on the road, and this car is a joy to drive whether bombing down the highway or just running errands in town. The transmission shifts faultlessly, the car drives and brakes straight and true and ride quality is impeccable. Lastly, the temperature control, heated seats, power seats, power top andpower roll barall function as they should.

With Mercedes’ trademark solid construction, gutty yet elegant era-specific styling and still relatively simple mechanical and electrical systems, the R129 Series SL is considered by many in the collector car world to be the last standard production Mercedes that will ever be considered a classic, and this final iteration 600 was the top of the line with a sticker price of more than $125k ($184k+ in today's dollars). With low mileage, desirable colors, clean cosmetics, strong mechanicals and a well cared for, two owner history, if you’re in the market for an incredible amount of car at an incredible value, this gorgeous SL600 deserves your serious consideration.
