Description

So here's what happened: Like any good car guy. I check Bringatrailer most every day. There was a ratty green survivor 68 International 1200 3/4 ton 4x4 featured there that was so crusty that it was downright cool. The old school. nbsp;heavy duty. Hulk Smash kind of truck that you just don't see much of anymore. I was driving along a dusty back road here in Montana. and spotted this 71 1210 3/4 ton 4x4 ratty green survivor truck. It looked straight and had all the good bits. so I dragged it home. After flushing the tank. a carb kit and a tune-up it was purring. I figured someone could have some cheap fun with it. so here it is with no reserve! For sale: 1971 International 1210 4x4 Camper Special original survivor western truck from the land of the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. This truck was ordered new with the bulletproof 392 4v and all the heavy duty equipment by a truck service and repair company in Montana and converted to a T34 five speed transmission from a Loadstar truck. It appears to have been well maintained by the service company. and then went to a rancher for some time after that. It's pretty straight. runs great. and it's ready to work. If you can't get the job done with this truck. it probably doesn't need doing. I'll do my best to describe the truck below. Exterior: Honest truck with what appears to be original paint. Nothing hidden or covered up. what you see is what you get. It has some rust. but not the sitting-at-the-bottom-of-a-lake-for-years rust you see so often on these IH trucks. This truck lived it's life out west. and while it has the typical hood hinge and front-of-floor rust. as well as a couple of spots low on cab and a lot of surface rust on box. nbsp;it's still a solid truck that you can use as is till you restore it. The hood hinge area looks bad. but the hood still feels strong and opens and closes fine. I'll throw in a set of new floor pans from Super Scout Specialists with the truck since I have a set sitting here. Box sides have heavy surface rust as shown. and box floor rusted underneath bed mat. some heavy scale but I don't see any major rot. I think you could treat with metal ready or similar prep and use a box liner product and be good to go. No rust in sills or rockers that I can see. Fortunately we just don't see major rot here. it's arid country and sand. not salt. is used on the roads. Truck is pretty straight with dent on driver side box rail and and typical small dings from use. Doors open and close great. Hood has been primed where an ornament was removed. Glass is good except windshield which needs replacement. Tailgate and bumper missing but I found a rust free tailgate with a few dents at our local boneyard I could include for and extra $100. I'm sure I could find a front bumper too if you like. See below link with more pics including underside. Interior: Good original condition. nbsp;seat upholstery is cracked under two-gun scabbard cover. but seat is not broken down or worn out. Driver armrest has a tear and dash has a few small cracks as shown. Door panels. original floor mat. nbsp;and headliner all in good condition. Has aftermarket radio. Mechanical: Truck hadn't run in a while when I got it. so I took it to a professional mechanic and had the driver side fuel tank flushed and the big Holley 4v rebuilt. The truck has also had a tune up with plugs. points. etc. It really starts well and runs like a top with no noticeable smoke or leaks. Typical IH light piston/wrist pin noise cold that goes away when fully warm. Mechanic thinks 73k miles indicated is actual. but I can't guarantee it. Power steering and power brakes are a big plus and work great. Passenger side tank will need to be flushed. it's disconnected now. I did check the engine stamping pad and it is indeed the 392. IH built these to last with sodium filled valves. high-nickel content block. nbsp;forged internals. and timing gears instead of a chain. Trans is a T34 5 speed. which was an HD option for these but I think this one came out of a Loadstar truck. based on the modified shifter. It's a bolt-in with factory parts. Oddball shift pattern takes some getting used to. but I got the hang of it - shifts up fine. Only issue I had. might be the operator. nbsp;was shifting down into the lower gears. It doesn't want to shift down into 3rd at much over 15mph. and 2nd is the same. With copious low-end grunt of the 392. I didn't have a problem. Truck will even start out in 3rd gear - it's got that much torque. I tested the 4x4. hubs and divorced t-case. and that all works great. Seems to be a nice tight truck that has been well cared for. Tires are mix and match 9. 50 x 16. 5 deep lug bias ply. and as you can imagine they don't drive as smooth as modern radials. Just for fun. I stuck a set of white spoke wheels with well worn 10 ply radials on from an F250 project and it drove like a new truck. If you'd rather have those. I'll swap them on before it leaves. Most everything works on the truck. lights. blinkers. wipers. heater blower. choke and throttle levers. even the cab lights all work. Fuel gauge is non-op. and the temp and oil pressure don't seem to be either- haven't checked into those. Speedometer works but jumps up and down and sticks. needs lube at a minimum. Ignition key isn't original and doesn't work in doors. and I don't have door key. Pricing/Misc: So here's a special thanks to the miscreants at BaT. and apologies in advance for any plagiarism. guys! The ratty 68 1200 featured ended up selling for $5k. and it had some rust. Not looking for anything like that here. I got a good deal on this rig and you will too - NO RESERVE. Transport is readily available and probably cheaper than fixing major rot on a Midwest or East Coast truck. Title is open and clear in the previous owner's name. ready for you to sign as purchaser. After the sale. I can store the truck outside for up to 30 days free. after that $50 per month storage will be due. Keep in mind that with all cars and trucks. nbsp;THEY LOOK BETTER IN PICTURES THAN IN PERSON. This is not a minty creampuff. just a solid truck to drive while you restore and IT IS NOT PERFECT BY ANY MEANS.
