In late 1963. it won another Government contract. this time for 4. 38 postal delivery vans for the U. S. Post Office. These postal vehicles. designated as model 8E5FC (FC for forward control). were called Zip-Vans in production. and were a very different job than assembling Army trucks. The Zip-Vans were a Studebaker design. and used the Studebaker Champ 6-cylinder engine. automatic transmission. frame. suspension. and steering components. and the Transtar instrument cluster. The bodies were built by Met-Pro of Lansdale. Pennsylvania. Because of the considerable truck division effort in their design and development. it’s probably a safe assumption that the company took considerable satisfaction in winning this particular contract. http://www. studebakerdriversclub. com/StudebakerTruckHistory. aspOn May-01-15 at 07:53:20 PDT. seller added the following information:Hello and thank you for the interest in the Studebaker Zip Van. Drove it back in October over to a buddy's shop to do some work on it. Breaks and was going to have it painted. Put a new break master cylinder on the van and went to bleed the breaks. that's when I found out the wheel cylinder bleeders were rusted and broken off. All the lights and turn signals work. Could not get the windshield wipers to work but I'm not sure I know how to turn them on. All the glass is good. I don't have a battery and it has not been started since October of last year. It has a key but it is a push button start.
