Description

1963 ½ Falcon Ranchero - 260 V8 - 4spd1 Owner - 89. 33 Original Miles - Super Rare - 1 of 135 Built NO RESERVE Thanks for checking out my 1963 ½ Falcon Ranchero. this is a very special car. As many of you already know. in January/February 1963 Ford announced that they would be adding the Fairlanes. 260 V8 Challenger to the Falcon line. All Falcons and Rancheros previously had an inline 6 so this was a big deal for a little car. 1963 ½ for Ford was very pivotal in their racing program. These cars are very rare. and coveted by most Ford High Performance guys especially equipped with a 4spd. But. an even rarer vehicle that many people didn’t know about is they optioned a handful of 1963 ½ Rancheros. with the same F code 260 V8 and 4spd (Code 5) transmission. These cars are very rare. only a handful were built in production. From the Registry. there were only 135 of these Rancheros built Total. and that is a generous number. they believe it might be closer to 100. This little Ranchero is in the 1963 ½ Registry. and currently there are only around 60 accounted for. The Register told me though only a few in the Registry. including mine. have been documented. by the VIN and Data Tag. some of the other owners have not given this information yet. registry has been around since 2002. This car you see is the real deal. F code 260 V8. Code 5 on door tag 4spd. Also interesting to note. is that this Ranchero along with another one in registry. are the earliest recorded with a Feb 28th build date from the San Jose. Plant. This is probably one of the first ones off the line. Also these cars came with 5 lug wheels. to handle the extra power. This is a very special car. I bought it from the original owner. right here in Salem. He knew I bought it to resale. so no surprise to him that I am selling it. I may be helping sell one of his other gems as well in the future. He told me. when he found out about these Rancheros in early February 1963. that he called all the Ford dealers here in the Northwest. some have not even heard about these Rancheros being built. Early March. Joe Fisher Ford. from Portland. Oregon. said there was one on the way up it was the only one on the truck. He went up to the dealership later that week. and brought this little Ranchero home. this may be the first one that ever showed up here in the Northwest. In all the years he has had this car. 52 years. he has only seen one other one. This is a very rare Ranchero. rarer than any other Futura or Falcon Sprint in general Ford Production. This is a must have for someone who has a collection. or just want something very unique. perfect shop truck for that Mustang. Shelby or High Performance nuts. I show lots of pictures. it is not perfect by any means. it is a driver. it has been cared for. and you will enjoy it very much. Mechanically it is in pretty good shape. Engine has never been rebuilt. as you can see from the engine compartment. it is completely original. it would win any Survivor engine compartment at any show. Chalk marks still on the air cleaner. original generator still on it. Just general maintenance items through the years. The Engine starts right up. and sounds great with the dual exhaust. has the perfect exhaust note. The engine is strong. has 89K on it. since it is original miles. but again it is 53 years old. When it first starts up. and you throttle it a bit. it blows a little blue smoke. I believe the valve seals probably are dry. so they let a little oil down the seat. It is running in all the photos. when you are out driving it around. it does not blow any smoke. under normal driving condition. If you stomp on it. it blows a little smoke. but then goes away. Pretty typical for older engine. that has never been rebuilt. I personally would keep it running just like it is. I wouldn’t rebuilt it. it has good power. and maybe if it is driven more. maybe it might help it some. You could have the valve seals replaced down the road not to hard to do. and that would help. Just recently it had a new cluth. pressure plate and throw out bearing. The transmission is original. factory 4spd. It shifts nicely. does not pop out of gear. the reverse lock out works good as well. No transmission noise. sounds nice and tight. The rearend. feels good no slop in it or howl. The exhaust is in good shape no holes. sounds great. It does steer good. but I have noticed. when you pull out of a drive way either way. the car will pull towards that direction for a bit. left or right. not sure what it is. The steering box maybe worn. like I mention it steers fine. feels tight. it is manual steering. The tires are in nice shape. nice tread. around 95%. Bridgestone. The Ranchero originally came with 13’ wheels. it has 14’ on it currently. I do have the original Hubcaps that came off the car new. Interior is in great shape. The original owner had it completely redone a number of years ago. new seat cover. door panels. had the dash painted. new headliner. Very nice looking inside and very comfortable to ride in. Non Smoker. very pleasant. Everything works inside the car. even the Radio (has to warm up first). Dome light works. interior lights. all the exterior lights on the car. The glass is in nice shape as well. It could use new window gaskets they are original and cracked. Overall a great looking interior. It has been repainted. The car is pretty solid. but it does have some needs. The paint is around 30 years old it is a little dull. there is some rust bubbles that have obviously formed and need to have repairs. Both door corners show some bubbles. Behind each wheel. in the quarters. they need to be repaired from rust. The roof gutters are showing some bubbling as well. You have to remember this is car that has survived through the years. and the gentleman kept care of it. to keep it useful. The rockers are very nice. no rust issues. Behind the quarters. on the inside drop offs. they are perfect. so just outside skin on rear quarters need to be replaced. The front floor boards are in great shape. But typical on these cars. water gets into the bed. and there are no drains. and the rear floor has that bid door bottled to the bed. and if the sealant goes bad. it lets water into the rear floors under the bed. So if you look underneath the rear floors have some patches. and pin holes. they will need to be replaced. This is something you can do eventually. or not do at all. but just want to show you what is going on. The car structurally is very sound. it is a unibody car. the frame rails. and inner rockers are in really nice condition. Please take a look at the photos. the paint is old. there are chips and small scratches on it. There is some filler on the car. mostly behind the rear back tires. and the bottoms of the doors. but if you are going to paint it down the road no worry. you can correct this all with the metal replacement it needs. Overall. the car is sound. and a very good driver. You will probably just leave it the way it is. and just drive it and enjoy it. I would take it to any car show or cruise in any day of the week. it does show well. and yes it is one rare piece of Ford machinery. This is a NO RESERVE. starting bid at $19. 63. yes NO RESERVE. top bid gets it. View the pictures and read the auction. If you have more questions let me know. and I would be glad to help you out.
