Description

I am selling my 1957 Morris Minor 1000 two door sedan. I have too many cars. trying to get down to just 2 collector cars! :)This is a nice running driving example. the actual miles since new are unknown. as the speedo didn't work when I got the car - it does now. I am probably at least the fourth owner and this is probably not its first engine. This Morris looks original but hidden around the car are a few important things like disk brakes. electronic ignition. better rear ratio. seatbelts etc that make this a much safer and more practical car on today's roads. while preserving the absolutely stock look of this wonderful little car. RELIABLE - you can jump in this car and drive it every day. It has super handling - great stopping power and really nice driving power too. It has been a wonderful car for promoting my business - see the pictures with all the vinyl artwork before I removed it. EVERYBODY notices this car. so you can really promote your business with it by simply applying custom vinyl graphics. The paint is decent - look good and shines very well - car was repainted in the last five years - before I bought it. No rust bubbles and the floors are all rust free too. Under the hood is just un-adorned. original 1957 black paint. although the engine and gearbox are all freshly painted - done during their overhauls a year ago. The metal battery box was repaired with fiberglass covering to resist any drops of battery acid that might leak in the future. It has a Smiths heater. which works really well and will keep you nice and warm even in really cold weather!Contrary to the popular trashing of Lucas electrics there has never been an electrical problem with this or any of the other Morris Minors (6) that I have owned at various times in my life. Everything just generally works properly. The 948cc engine was just overhauled 3 months and about 40 miles ago with new piston rings. double valve springs. new big-end bearings. new gaskets. tires. carpet. brakes. modern electric fuel pump. The Crane Electronic ignition distributor was installed too and that makes a huge difference to the running and power. The ribcase gearbox was completely overhauled. 4. 22 to 1 ratio diff (rear differential) from a 1098cc Morris Minor. instead of the original 4. 55. That means it now does freeway speeds without over-revving the engine. It has DISK BRAKES in the front- so you can really stop!New radial tires all round. - tracks very well. New wheel bearings all round - good for many years now. Many things have been renewed or restored. To keep the car's personality most of the interior is new. proper Morris Minor. sent from England. The seats are all re-sprung and with new Morris vinyl tan interior - they look and feel really comfortable. New seat belts - lap and shoulder - added 2 years ago. I also have rear ones - included with the car but not yet installed. The car is looking very good - especially considering it is a 1957!She starts easily. runs strong on all her 4 cylinder. single carb horsepower. Steers easily and tracks straight. and the front disk brakes and rear drums pull up as smartly and true. Town driving is great - easy and comfortable. Freeway driving at 55mph is just fine without over-revving or over-straining the engine. The original rack and pinion steering means fabulous. accurate and effortless steering. The steering wheel only ever needs to be moved if you're turning. otherwise it is simply held still! The 4-speed gearbox is solid in all four gears - no jumping out of any gear and selects positively - not like some I've driven where it feels like you're moving a wooden spoon in a bucket of custard!!New trunk wood panels - shellac-ed plywood. They look great and you can carry a surprising amount of luggage etc. She is ready to drive and needs nothing if you don't want a project. or if you like to tinker there are a handful of small projects that can keep you busy without ever having to take her off the road if you want. The turn signals work. but the light at the end of the indicator stalk isn't working - the one in the speedo works though. The horizontal window scrapers on the doors are not on the car however I do have them. they're new and they're included with the car. Since the car was swapped to left hand drive it was fitted with flashing turn signals. The semiphores/ trafficators could be fitted if desired. ( I think this would be really cool). There are standard blanking covers there at this time. The car has also been converted to negative ground. so you can easily add a lighter outlet for example. The fuel gauge isn't accurate - it indicates 1/4 when it's empty. I always carry a spare gallon of gas in the trunk in case. The new electric fuel pump makes it easy to restart the car of you ever run out of gas - I did it a lot until I finally realized the fuel gauge was inaccurate. There are the standard squeaks from the rubber suspension bushings if you don't occasionally spray them with silicone - I do that every few months. The steering wheel isn't original but those are cheap and available of you prefer that. Apart from those little things it's a wonderful little car and will really get noticed. wherever you go. Many more photos will be posted shortly. Any other questions or if you want to test drive please call me at a decent hour Pacific standard time. Jeremy831-252-2287
