1970 DODGE CHARGER R/T,440-6 PACK,V CODE,1 OF 1 FACTORY A/C,FULLY RESTORED
Up for sale is a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T V code 440-6 pack. It is an original FJ5 Sublime Green high impact color with a charcoal and black interior. It has received a complete rotisserie restoration and the finished project is nothing short of amazing. The most unique part of this car is that is has factory air conditioning and factory cruise control which were not an available option on a 440-6 pack motor. Before the restoration started I had it visually inspected by Dave Wise and Rob Wolf from Mopar Collectors Guide. A 7 page very well written and researched article was published on the car in the May 2014 issue.
I purchased the car in the same condition it had sat for at least 25 years out on a field in Nebraska. It was missing the drive train but wore all of it's original paint and body panels. The only sheet metal needing replacement was the trunk floor. It has all the original vin's stampings and tags on the car including the fender tag. I completed a very expensive and time consuming restoration on the car to it's original fender tag specifications. At the end of the day this is a real V code Charger R/T with air. That point has been documented and is irrefutable. Whether is actually came off the assembly line with a 6 pack or a 440 magnum will remain a mystery in my opinion and the opinion's of all the people who researched this car.
There is nothing on the car that has not been restored, eplaced or rebuilt. These cars cost a fortune to restore, can tell you that first hand and there were no shortcuts taken anywhere or on any parts. I have over $50,000 in just parts receipts and that is at wholesale costs. I also have at least $35,000 in labor costs just with my private mechanic who is on salary, therwise at a normal shop labor rates it would have been closer to $80,000 in labor. I wont list every single item on the car but here is a brief overview of the important stuff:
The motor is a vinatge correct 440 hi-po motor that was built with all the correct 6 pack internals and has a build book from the shop that built it and dyno tuned it for me. The 6 pack setup is a complete brand new reproduction set up from Herbs parts. There is over $10,000 in actual receipts for the motor alone and it runs fantastic. The transmission is a correct torqueflight 727 rebuild by a local transmission shop. The rear end is the original 8 3/4 with 3:23 gears and also disassembled and rebuilt. The brakes are all brand new and the only change I made was upgrading from 4 wheel power drum brakes to power front disc/ rear drum set up but all correct looking aside from a adjustable proportioning valve underneath the car. The radiator is a correct factory looking Glen Ray unit this is upgraded to a 4 core.
The interior has been completely redone. All the gauges and woodgrain trim on the dash are original and still in nice condition. The seats have been refoamed and recovered, ew headliner, ll new date coded tinted glass was installed, ew carpet, new console, ew shifter andcomplete new reproduction wiring harness was installed from front to back including the dash harness and fuse box. All of the gauges work correctly and everything works as it should on the entire car with 2 exceptions. I purchased a correct used and rare 8 track am stereo radio however it does not work. All the speakers are new including the impossible to find stereo dash speakers. All the correct air conditioning pieces are installed on the car however the actual dash control vacuum switches are no good and hace not found a replacement set. The next alternative was to replace the air conditioning system with a complete vintage air setup with all new controls but never did it. The also impossible to find heater core for an a/c car was sourced out and replaced while the dash was out as well.
The undercarriage was still in great shape and repainted body color as it should be. It has a complete new exhaust system, ew fuel tank, ew fuel lines, omplete new suspension with correct reproduction heavy duty shocks
Thepaint and body are stunning from every angle and this car glows in the sunlight. The body is absolutely laser straight andall the original factorybody panels line up better then they did when the car was brand new. All the trim has been refinished and both original bumpers were rechromedto the highest standards. It took a long time and a lot of money to find a nearly perfect complete grill assembly but it found it's way onto this car. Brand new wheels and correct bias ply tires were also installed along witha matching spare tire.
All said and done the entire project was a complete success and the finished project is an outstanding example of a rare and iconic muscle car restored to it's former glory. A1970 Dodge Charger R/T 440-6 pack finishedin one of the most iconicDodge colors ever made will make an outstanding addition to any car collection.
