Description

Up for auction is my 1997 Pontiac Trans Am. It is a LT1 5.7 liter, S6 Ram Air, speed manual car. I bought this car with about 63000 miles on it to be my daily driver. I had really good luck with my 2000 Camaro and put 287000 miles on it with no real problems before selling it. I thought this car would be similar but that has not been the case. I will detail what I think you as a buyer should be concerned with.

1. Emissions: I had a really hard time getting the emissions system on this car to stop coding. The evap system was the problem and I have at last, inally, ot that fixed. It took a lot of work from my mechanic replacing sensors, lowing out and replacing lines along with various parts along the way to get this done. I replaced all parts with GM parts where I could if they were available. I also had to replace the drivers side cat. I went with Flowmaster as I could not get a new cat from GM. The car finally now runs normal and has been inspected.
2. Ingition: The distributor had to be replaced twice before I finally got that issue solved. I replaced it both times with a new GM Delco unit. The distributorson these LT1 cars are not the best design that GM has come up with in my opinion. The car runs good now.
3. Engine: Last year the engine started making a squeaking noise that my mechanic thought was most likely a cam bearing. So instead of just tearing down the engine to fix just one thing! I had the whole engine rebuilt to stock specs. It has about 10K on the new engine and I have not had any issues with it.
4. Transmission: The transmission pressure plate, hrow out bearing, lutch, nd pilot bearing had to be changed a couple of times. We just could not get the car to shift as smooth as I would like so I kept replacing the parts until I had a smoother shifting car.I dont think parts are made as good as they used to be. GM no longer makes the clutch assembly for these car either.I also had the input shaft, otor and transmission mounts replaced to make sure that was not the issue. The transmission parts we went with were from the company Ram. I went with the thier stock specLT4 setup. It shifts good now although it is still not as smooth as I would like from a dead stop.
5. Exteriour: There are cosmetic flaws with the car as well. It was involved in a small incident in 2013. Two cars got into a wreck in front of me and I tapped the rear bumper of rear car. I was told by the body shop that I must have hit the car doing about 2 to 3 or less miles per hour when the impact occurred. I took pictures of the damage. Basically the damage is just paint damage in the form of webbing in the paint on the front bumper cover along with some chipped paint in the corners. The scratch on the front bumper cover was there when I bought the car. Look at the pictures so that you can see all of this. I have an estimate of $1200.00 from a body shop to fix all this. Basically the owner told me he would just take the front bumper cover off and repaint it. He told me thier was no internal damage. The person who owed the car before me must have put some bolts that were too long on the hood supports because the fiberglass has some underside bumps where they go. Ihave no ideawhy this was done. It's not bad but it is something that I was planning getting fixed because that's just the way I am. I have the correct bolts and they will come with the car. The driver side door hinge broke and the door started to sag. I had the bodyshop repair it and the door opens and closes good now with no sag. Passenger side door has no issues. The rocker panel trim has some cracks on the bottom where they bolt to the car. I have another set of rocker panels that you will have to paint that goes with this auction to fix this issue. They are stock, ed, nd are in great shape. The window tint is starting to bubble on the hatchback glass. The rest of the car is in good shape.
6 Interiour:The dash cap is cracked. Major problem with these 4th generation F bodies. This auction comes with a undamaged stock GM dash cap to fix that. I have included it in the pictures. The center console has scuffs where the seat belts go and I have a much better center console that is included with this auction to fix that issue as well. Again, ee the pictures. The headliner is starting to sag in the rearjust slightly. Again see the picture. Also included with this auction is extra Interior trim parts. They are the plastic kick panels left and right. Extra front seat plastic trim parts, nd rear plastic hatch panels that hold the speakers.
7. Modifications: The only mods to this car are as follows. The previous owner sadly ditched the stock intake and put on a Moroso cold air intake. He also installed a Magna Flow cat back exhaust. The only mod I have done was to install a SLP skip shift eliminator circuit . I hate the skip shift feature these cars came with. I only use stock GM parts or AC Delco when possible and have kept the car as stock as I could keep it. The rims are good with no curb rash. The tires are Nitto 555 (stock specs) and have plenty of tread on them. It comes with an extra rim just in case you ever need one. The extra rim has curb rash but is in good shape otherwise.
I have tried to tell you guys everything I thinkis important about this car. Ask questions if need be. It is not a hot rod and I have taken very good care of it. It has not abused or drove it hard since I have owed it. I am not sure I can say the same about its previous owner as I had to rebuild the engine way to soon. I have spent a good deal of money fixing this car up. I would keep it but I need a good daily driverandright now and dont have the space for an extra car. This is a cash sale and you will have to pick pick the car up so be aware of that. I am not in the shipping business. The plates on this car personal plates and don't go with the car so you will have to get new plates when you register it. I am also listing it locally. This car should be good for someone who wants a good stock project car. It has a rebuilt engine, replaced the A/C two years ago. I went with all AC Delco parts and replaced everything except for the evaporator. I have only used quality GM or AC Delco parts for many other things that I replaced on it. It has good wheels and tires, nd I have extra parts for it for future stock trim upgrades. Again, do not recommend it for a daily driver. Although it has been mine for almost 3 years.
Note: I was asked if there are scratches in paint running down the sides of the doors. Those arenot scratches. It istheglare in the paint capturedby the camera of my IPAD. Looks like scratches but they are not.
