Description

This auction is for one 1996 Mazda Miata, with power steering, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, power brakes, power mirrors, and an automatic transmission. LOCATED IN GREENWICH, CT.

Just over 148k original miles.

The color is a metallic blue green, it looks dark blue at a distance or in shade, but can look dark green in direct sunlight. See photos. Hard to describe, but it does look good. Was repainted (I'd say 3 or 4 years ago). Car was originallythe Mazda Miata dark blue.

Black original interior is in generally good condition, see photos.

I encourage you to come and see it in person, and take a test drive here in Greenwich, CT. Just message me here on eBay and we can arrange a time.

Positives:

1) Strong engine
2) Auto trans shifts well and shows no leaks
3) Convertible top does not leak
4) Air conditioning blows cold, fan working well with no squeaks
5) Handles and drives well
6) OEM suspension feels like its working as it should - no sagging or bounce
7) Cruise control works well
8) Power mirrors work well
9) Newer tires ($335, less than 500 miles on them)
10) Recent oil change (2k mi ago)
11) New front brakes (new rotors, calipers, pads, new cotter pins, brake line inspection) ($650)
12) New pipe from catalytic converter and new muffler, I believe stainless steel. Cat and pipe from engine was good when muffler was intalled about 2k mi ago ($471)
13) New valve cover gasket (about 2k mi)
14) Passed CT emissions, and good till Mar 2017
15) New plugs, wires, and coils about 2k mi ago
16) Owners manual included
17) Steel wheels for a more vintage look (these have been repainted for a brighter appearance)
18) Glove box lock works
19) Glass is in good shape... no chips or cracks, no scratches of mention in side windows or windshield
20) Radio / CD player(marked "Sony Model MP3 WMA Xpl5d 52W x 4") works well and has an "AUX"input for cel tels, etc.
21) Battery newer... starts right up from cold
22) Timing belt appears newer... shiny gel texture on the side facing the gears, very mild scuffing on the outside (side going over rollers). Message me for photos.

23) All gauges work

24) Heater works

25) There is an alarm system, but I haven't used it - prior owner didn't know how to use it and didn't have remote. Possibly you can bring it to an alarm place, etc. to be sorted out.

26) Rear brakes good

Caveats:

1) See photos for 2 paint issues close ups - should be fine / not decay further if garaged
2) Cigarette lighter doesn't work, but I installed a center panel lighter receptacle, battery voltage, and USB power ports, switched directly off the battery so you can charge items when engine is off
3) Both power windows are a bit sluggish... common older Miata problem. They do work, just slower thannew cars!
4) Warm idle sometimes drops to 600 RPM or so when very hot. This may be an air valve or idle adjustment. I've lived with this since I bought it, just didn't get to fixing it
5) Power antenna can be intermittent in terms of a full return to lowered. Sometimes sticks with 6" of mast exposed. Currently down.
6) Some shock tower rubber boots are disconnected / ripped, but suspension functions well
7) Driver's seat side has fabric fraying - see photo, passenger seat in good shape
8) Top has been repaired on edges above windows - see photo(s), done with black silicon
9) Center console arm rest lock doesn't work with "secondary key"... do they ever? Other Miatas I've seen don't either!
10) Standard older body dings... see photos, many small dings, typical of Miatas
11) Speakers work but sound could be improved upon... may just be the original "quality"!
12) Battery cover not present (I bought it this way, has not been an issue)
13)OEM "eyeball" air vents hold position, but someone taped themaround the eyeball with cellophane tape for better grip, which shows on occasion
14) Fuel gauge needle twitches on occasion if fuel is under 1/2 tank

15) There is no remote / keyless entry - possibly you can get one from Mazda, but I have 2 sets of keys (4 keys).

Had I not had some financial set backs, I would have kept this car and attended to the smaller items listed above, and possibly restored it completely.

Moss Miata has some great ideas for upgrades.

Clean CT title, appears to have had 3 owners total (I am third owner).
