1969 Mercedes 280SL Roadster W113 Pagoda #'s Matching, 2-Owners, Books, Records, Soft/Hard Tops ......please be patient while the many photos load.....

1969 Mercedes 280SL Roadster for sale. This highly original, numbers matching Pagoda was sold new on May 19th, 1969 finished in Light Beige with Red MB Tex interior at Gauthier Motors in Salem, Massachusetts and kept by it's first owner for 36 years until selling to a friend here locally in the California wine country in 2005. The car moved to Sonoma, California about 25 years ago where it has remained since.

Interior appears mostly original, except newer rugs and dash pad. Original door/kick panels. Nicely preserved wood and the desirable three-point Kangol seat belts. This car still has it's original side and rear factory installed Sekurit glass.

The exterior has seen one re-paint and been touched up as needed. The body looks solid and the floors are in good condition. The cloth top is older, has a small half-inch tear on the drivers side lower corner but the rear window has good viability. All of the chrome, trim and lenses look to be original and in good, usable condition.

The car is nice to drive. The original 280SL factory installed engine starts right up and is smooth and quiet with no smoke or undesirable sounds. The shifting feels accurate and tight.

The new car invoice is still with the car as well as the books and a plethora of records beginning in the service booklet in 1969. The body stamps match the data tag as shown below on the hood, removable hardtop and soft top stow-away lid. With it's transparent past, two-owners, matching numbers along with a healthy amount of documentation, this 280SL is an excellent candidate to continue to preserve and use as-is but certainly worthy of a thorough, proper restoration with the values continuously on the rise.

The mileage on this vehicle has been recorded at the time of listing and is subject to change. Regardless of our commitment to describe vehicles in as much detail as possible there will be imperfections. Us failing to mention for example an item such as a paint imperfection, an inoperable switch etc, does not constitute refusal of a car by the buyer. Vehicles are complex machines with thousands of parts. Classic & special interest vehicles are broad in their differences and uniqueness. Even though we attempt to be as clear and concise in our descriptions as possible, some of these are cars that we buy and consign. They are not our own personal cars and we do not always know what to specifically look for. It may have issues that are inherent to a vehicle of its type and/or age. In short, we encourage you to ask questions. We also encourage inspections to avoid any misunderstandings. This vehicle is being sold "as-is", with no warranty, expressed or implied. Vehicle is available for an inspection prior to purchase and we will be happy to arrange one at the expense of the interested buyer. Again, the winning bidder is committed to following through on the transaction. First Time Classic Car Buyers, Welcome to the classic car hobby! But please consider that these old cars, even when in great operational order are nothing like your modern car! Please do not expect even a restored several decades old car to perform with the same preciseness or reliability as a late model car. If you're new to the hobby please feel free to contact me. I have driven classic cars continuously for over 30 years and am happy to share the joys as well as the realities involved in owning these special old cars.

On Aug-15-16 at 14:10:24 PDT, seller added the following information:

I received the documentation and have scanned all of it for your review. It looks like a speedometer replacement occurred at 106,428 with a used unit. There is also an engine rebuild receipt at 46,248 (146,248) which would indicate that this rebuild has just under 50k miles on it. Also, please note that service booklet documents the period between new and the first repair order accounting for the initial 39k miles up until April 5th of 1972. The car shows to be regularly maintained and well cared for. Click link below to review or <right click><save as> to download to your hard drive.
