Description

One 1967 Jaguar model 420 for your consideration. I purchased this car from an estate, but truly have too much on my plate to give it the attention it deserves. The 420 was a mere two year production run, derived from the earlier "S-Type" and possessed the great qualities, yet a few minor refinements over the 3.8s, making it a bit more modern. The 420 still retained the legendary and bulletproof dual overhead cam, straight six engine as its predicesors, but displacement increases to a 4.2 liter breathing through increased twin SU HD8 carburetors- the same model used on the XKE. The 420 still retained the famous jaguar independent rear suspension and 4 wheel disc brakes, a considerable performance enhancement to the early saloons. The automatic transmission is a very highly regarded Borg Warner, newly installed on the 420 model. Other alterations included negative ground electrical system, upgraded alternator charging and a facelift to the coach work. The good, the bad and the ugly....The previous owner had owned the car since 1989 and had slowly, over time, began to restore it. It was originally Opalescent Dark Green Metalic with black leather interior. A beautiful combination. To my best understanding, the 420 was offered standard in 8:1 compression head, with an optional 9:1 high compression head. This car has its original, numbers matching 9:1 head. The previous owner had the rear glass replaced including a new seal and had purchased a tremendous amount of NEW rubber body seals and gaskets for the cat from SNG Barratt, one of the worlds most recognized dealers of Jaguar restoration parts. Tons of new rubber moldings included new in packages for doors, windows, vents, boot, bonnet etcetera. Pedal pads, lighting gaskets and so on. Hundreds of dollars, likely complete included! I was told the car had been run periodically, but I have yet to fire it up. It turns over perfectly, but the points, condenser and rotor have been removed and replacements need to be ordered. The remainder of the engine compartment appears fully intact and assembled. The car is quite clean and straight for a fifty year old Jag, only requiring minor work to the drivers floor and local surrounding area. It comes with the rare correct lap belts and service, owners and parts catalogs. The xk120 manual in the pics is not included. The car itself, I'd estimate about 98% complete, but a few items went missing during the process of consolidating the gentleman's various cars and projects. The interior had been previously removed for reupholstry and some of the work completed. The door cards look clean and fresh. The back seat rest is done, but in vinyl and is missing the lower part. Also, the spring for the front passenger seat were not located, nor was the rear bumper and drip molding and other exterior chrome trim. Otherwise, I've noticed nothing else missing. These pieces are all shared with the S Type and all fairly easily obtained at reasonable cost. Please look closely and make your own determination. Overall, it would be quite a worthwhile project. I'd rather see something done with this car, other than being parked on my back burner. This is a reasonably good opportunity to acquire a classic Jaguar sport saloon that are just finally beginning to be recognized in a world of ever skyrocketing vinatge Jaguar prices. Parts are readily available for this car from a wide variety of sources. This car is sold with bill of sale only. I thank you for having a look. Please bid to win. The reserve price is surprisingly low on this car. Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions that need answering prior to placing a bidBest,Rick
