Description

Up for sale is a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. It is a 4x4 equipped Jeep with the AMC 4.0 inline 6. 1995 was the last year of the original 1993 design. 1996 had the facelift.
This Jeep is a project car, as labeled in the title. The Jeep runs and drives, moves under its own power HOWEVER it needs new rear pads and rotors. The engine runs smooth and the transmission goes through all 4 gears, but it has an issue with the shift points. The trans does shift but it seems to not know WHEN to shift. Letting go of the gas then pressing on it again around the shift point or driving it heavy footed at starting speeds allows the trans to shift between 1st and 2nd normally. Adjusting the throttle valve cable helps the transmission shift better and sometimes the issue is not noticeable at all, but the issue comes back when the car hasn't been driven the next day. Adjusting the cable again makes the issue go away for that day. I've been told that it needs a new valve body, which is a simple replacement and a common 42RE problem according to members on Jeep forums. The valve body is on top of the trans filter and drops down relatively simple. Other than that, the Jeep runs good and doesn't need much mechanically.
The body isn't in the best condition. The paint is peeling off the body, most noticeably on the hood and roof where there is surface rust. The metal is still strong on the roof and the surface rust can be sanded off, primed and painted without the need for filler or bondo. The frame and undersides are great with no signs of rust.
The interior could use some cleaning but there is no tears on the seats and the headliner was replaced in 2011. The dashboard is cracked as well as the trim surrounding the gauges. The driver's side panel is missing the door handle trim. It's in the center console, just never got around to putting it back on.
It has a new battery, new catalytic converter, new muffler and tail pipe, new radiator. Water pump was installed in 2015 as well as a new thermostat and thermostat housing. It also got a new valve cover gasket. The headliner was redone as well.
