Description

1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk. 1 Owner 45 Years! Packard V8. SEE VIDEO. 1956 Studebaker Golden HawkAbout the best thing to come out of the merger of Studebaker and Packard in 1956 was the Golden Hawk. Blending the Raymond Loewy-designed Hawk body with the powerhouse Packard 352 cubic inch V8 engine creating 275 horsepower and 380 ft. lbs. of torque. the lightweight (3. 60 lb. ) Golden Hawk had rated performance of 0-60mph in 9. 2 seconds. It was truly one of the first muscle cars for the everyman. and would blow the doors off of just about anything else on the highway in 1956. This particular car is #330 of the 601 that were built at Studebaker's Los Angeles plant. The factory order number "X5329" can still be seen crayoned on the firewall. and is confirmed on the production order sheet (See photos). It was shipped on March 9. 1956 to Rasmussen Motors in Portland. Oregon. Sold to a Portland-area buyer. it was purchased by the second owner. a prominent Portland car collector in 1970 and remained with him until his passing last year. The family is now offering it for sale. The car was last driven regularly in 1990. Recently it was removed from storage. All systems were checked. The fuel system was cleaned and the Carter WCBF carburetor was professionally rebuilt. The power brakes were serviced including rebuilt master cylinder. new hoses. front drums and shoes. New battery. The car has been road tested and runs well although it would benefit from a thorough service by a Studebaker mechanic plus new tires and a muffler before extended driving. The Packard V8 runs smooth and strong with no smoke. The mileage of 56. 00 showing on the odometer is believed to be original and correct. Starts easily hot or cold. The Packard Twin Ultramatic transmission shifts smoothly. Power steering operates well. All gauges work. The tachometer and vacuum gauge were previously disconnected. but are present. Radio and heater/defroster work. All options listed on the original production order sheet are still with the car. The driver's seat cushion was previously reupholstered. Otherwise the interior is original. Upholstery has no rips or tears. Original headliner. Driver's exterior door handle button is sticky. Glass is good throughout. All windows operate. Chrome trim is in good original condition. Trunk is solid throughout. Includes spare tire with hubcap. jack and lug wrench. The body is straight and appears accident-free and rust-free. The unique Golden Hawk fiberglass tailfins are in excellent condition. Car was re-painted at some time in the distant past in the original color combination of Snowcap White and Ceramic Green. Paint presents nicely at a distance and would benefit from a cleaning and polish. or repaint for show. There are areas of wear. chips and scratches noted from age and storage. Please see photos. Chrome and stainless are original and in very good condition. This is a rare opportunity to get a two-owner. low-mileage Golden Hawk. Overall. this is a well-preserved car that can be enjoyed now as-is. or taken to the next level. You will likely not see another one at your local car show or cruise-in. A realistic reserve has been placed on this car in keeping with rarity and condition. I expect it to easily meet. and exceed the reserve price. Fully restored.
