Description

For sale. 1976 Pontiac Firebird Espirit . the last year for round headlights. Engine is a Pontiac 350 with Factory 2 barrel intake. Turbo 350 automatic transmission. I have owned this car for over 11 years. It was unmolested and had very little surface rust. I even found a land survey from 1976 in-between the trunk pan and quarter panel. Unfortunately the old saying "out of sight out of mind" holds very true to this car. The front windshield fell victim to a bush hog episode which left a 8" piece of crosstie halfway through. Which was ultimately the demise of the interior. This is the only 2nd gen firebird I have ever seen that has plastic mouldings instead of stainless steel around the front and rear winshields. These mouldings have a stripe in the center that matched the body color (faded now). I have had 3 different glass shops come out to replace the front. All of them say they have never seen a 2nd gen car with out metal post and walk away from it. This is my second 76. My first one I've had for 21 years (its finally getting restored). I'm selling this car because it deserves better than what I have allowed to happen to it. After sitting for ten years I put fresh gas in the tank and a few drops in the carb. Busted off on third try. I brought it home drained the tank. rebuilt carb. and installed new fuel pump on 2/14/15 (romantic I know. wife loved it ). Now she runs just as sweet as can be. no knocks or smoke or engine oil leaks power steering has a small leak haven't investigated (probly just a hose). Master cylinder has small leak. This car has good pick up off the line and these cars are surprisingly fun to drive with two barrel carburetor. As long as this car has sat I'm quite certain the clutch material will start breaking down on the trans. (Last master rebuid kit I bought ran $150. 00. 8 years ago)Body wise: The right fender is a total loss. the left is probably salvageable. roof is in great shape. both right and left quarter panels are in good shape with minor rust (and some pitting ) around windshield. Both right and left quarters will need patch (kick) panels behind tires. Both doors will need skins due to rust holes (I would be prepared to pick up 2 doors ). Hood is in good shape with 2 small dents in it. Floor: left front floor pan. I think left rear. and right rear needs pans (classic industries sells fronts for roughly $80 and rears for $50). deck lid is in good shape. however trunk will need sheet metal repair on left side. Rear bumber and front valance both have cracks. OER finally offers 1976 replacement parts ( header panel and lower bumper are year specific. and were only offered in 1976 ). Header panel has two cracks but is cheaper and better material to repair with fiberglass. No warranty. as is where is. odometer i'm quite certain has rolled over a few times.
