Its distinguishing feature is that it has the same wide body. brakes. and suspension as the fabulous. ultra-high cost Turbo Carrera. but is fitted with the same naturally aspirated air-cooled engine as lesser Carreras. As a consequence it is much less complex and costly to maintain than the Turbo. but its performance remains impressive. Visually. the only differences between the Turbo and the M491 is that the latter was not fitted with the Turbo insignia on the rear engine lid. and the huge signature “whale tail” rear spoiler which was standard on the Turbo and optional on the Turbo Look. The 1987 to 1989 Carreras had the very desirable and improved G50 5-Speed transmission. 1989 is also the last year of this styled 911. Factory records indicate that this is one of 24 “USA” designated “M491" optioned Carrera Cabriolets delivered in 1989. There were an additional 41 “USA California” (tighter emissions) M491 cars also delivered that year. These Turbo Look Cabriolets are incredbily sought after because of their rarity. The 1989 model is by far the most desirable and it looks absolutely stunning in Grand Prix White over Blue Leather. Records indicate that this M491 Cabriolet was sold new at Forest Lane Porsche of Dallas. Texas on February 27th 1989. Carfax indicates that it was next registered on January 28th 1991 in Ohio. The next registration shows a new title issued in Washington State in 1996. where it remained until 2014. Mileage reported on the Carfax is consistant with current mileage and with Warranty book stamps and we believe it to be completely accurate and original. We have carefully inspected the vehicle for original panels and noted the vin stickers on every panel. In our paint meter readings we have discovered signs of re-paint. however the standards are certainly what you would expect from any low mileage collector car and the vehicle is wearing a signifcant amount of its original paint. There are no signs of accidents and no damage reported on the Carfax. We believe the paintwork was to touch up blemishes from road use as the long term owner was fastidous about keeping the car in mint condition at all times.
