Description

This is a unique opportunity to acquire a real unicorn in the 944 world...this is not your normally seenred exterior paint, neglected and tired example.
Special ordered withNO sunroof and sportequipment,it resided with its original owner the first 25 years. I was fortunate to locate and purchase it close to 4 years ago, using it for my 200 mile/day commute to and from the Porsche Center I was employed at. It's been a fantastic vehicle - comfortable, fast, fuel efficient and reliable. I've spent astupid amount of $$$$$ maintaining and upgrading itduring my stewardship. Here is a list of factory equipment and options, upgrades and its current mechanical/physical condition:

EXTERIOR:No accidentchassis (clean Carfax)wearing its original blackpaint.Weight saving fiberglass Europeanfront and rear bumpers were imported and installed along with newfront bumper pads and rearrubber bumper strip.Clear front outsidebumper signalsand lower driving lightlenses.924Turbo front vented nose panel with modified S2 air box behind it to allow for cold air intake without water intrusion. Paint is shiny and presents itself very well.Newer'Skurit'windshield purchased from Porsche dealer and professionally installed.Toshave some more weight, I removed the heavy motorized flag mirrors and mounted a pair of real factory feather weight 944 Cup mirrors.Overall this 944 has developed (just like the interior) a nice 'patina'... normal wear indicative of a very well preserved, but well driven, Porsche.
INTERIOR:Original interior in remarkable condition. No rips, tears, or obvious cosmeticflaws.Theleather seats, steering wheel, hand brake handle and shift knobshow only minimal wear - they look better than most 30K mile 944 I've seen. Non-smoker owner(s) who took care getting in and out of the cabin anddidn't eat/drop fast foodwhile sitting inside (might sound silly, but it makes a difference). Original no-sunroof headliner in great shape withminty sunvisors that don't sag. Center console lidhinge isn't broken/cobbled up. Cigarette lighter/12V outlet works. Clock works but does not illuminate at night. Cruise control only works when it wants to (intermittently). Protective window tinting, use of a sunshade, inside storage and carcover havehelpedkeepthe carpet looking fade freeand the leather supple. Dashis in excellentcondition too, with only one small area showingslight 3/8" longliftingat one of the vents.I have the upper seatback and sunshade for the rear seat - left it out and removed the power seat motors from the drivers side seatto reduce more weight.
Mechanicals: When I purchased this 944 it sported an unusual supercharger system and sport exhaustinstalled by the original owner years ago. These itemsdefinitely added more power andsounded cool, but the supercharger to A/C belt pulley needed to be constantly adjusted. Having owned many 968 and S2, I knew there was a betterand more reliable way to achievepower,so I started looking for asuitable 3.0L engine.Ended uppurchasing a nearly complete70K milewrecked '89 S2. Removed the motor, front mounted oil cooler assembly, complete exhaust system with cat,air box and wiring harness/ECU. The motorand all parts were cleaned, new seals, water pump, belts, pulleys, chain tensionerpads installed. Air conditioner works great, blowing cold on even the hottest Florida days. TMU as the odometer stopped at 101K... through my careful tracking of mileage due to the constant distance commute, I'd estimate actual to be close to 130K.
The original transmission was taken down and redone/upgraded less than 1,500 miles ago. The factory ZF limited slip was disassembled and new clutch plates installed along with new synchros, gears, bearings and gaskets where needed in the transmission itself. A 944 Turbo transmissionloop cooler andoil pump weremachined/modifiedand installed to keep oil operating temperatures down under stress/heavy load.An existing factory short shift kit was retained, giving positive/quick "snick - snick" shifts. Thetorque tube was upgraded as this time too withexpensive'Super Bearings' and new Sachs clutch/pressure plate. There hasbeen approximately8,500 miles on this conversion and it has NEVER given me one problem and this non-variocam motormated to the original short geared limited slip transmission -in the light weight chassis -definitely pulls strong!
Front and rear brakes were upgraded prior to my ownership to 944 Turbo calipers. These were swapped out for the S2/Turbo binders from my donor car (the old calipers had been spray painted red, which bothered me as they didn't look OG). New front tie rods, wheelbearings and bushings have been installed. I had an original 944 Cup manual steering rack, so I put the always leak pronepower steering rack and canister in the dumpster. The steering is not difficult at low speeds and so direct whenon the road and twisting through corners.Strut tower brace added by PO for extra rigidity.Afterexperimenting with many different setups, I'vebeen most happy with the 944 Turbo S front and rear swaybars currently on the car now. A super rare NOS set of 944Cup Koni double adjustable (forheight and firmness) shocks were installed, rear torsion bars deleted, and race height with corner balance professionally done by Broadfoot Racing. The resulting ride quality is definitely more firm than most 944, but I found it perfectly suitable for normal driving and my highway commute. Wheels are a set of seldom seenfactory forged aluminum 8& 9 x16" from a European 928 GT, shed with correctly sized/new Toyo Proxess high performance summer tires.I haveall original keys, books, and stacks of records. Even have a letter from the then President of Porsche to the current owner along with the 944 literaturethat was with it. Clear open title in myname, I'm ready to complete a transaction if a reasonable offer is made.
