“It could be said, we suppose, that the Boxster RS60 spyder started life 47 years ago in the form of the silver 1960 Porsche Type 718 RS60 spyder piloted by Hans Herrmann and Olivier Gendebien, who landed Porsche its first overall victory in the 1960 12 Hours of Sebring—a watershed victory for the fledgling brand.

Today's limited-edition Boxster RS60 spyder (only 1960 will be made for global distribution) is rendered in GT Silver with twin lip spoilers in front and all-red taillamp lenses in back. The windshield surround is black, and the 19-inch wheels are set farther out with spacer plates, giving the spyder a slightly more aggressive stance.

The coolest feature inside the RS60 spyder, by far, is its three-pod stand-up instrument cluster that does away with the standard Boxster's instrument cowling.

First 300-Plus-Horsepower Boxster

Now, although the RS60 spyder is the first Boxster to wear the "RS" label, this car does not bring with it a lighter and intensified package as is the case with the Carrera GT3 RS. In this case, "RS" is merely a way to connect it to the aforementioned Type 718 RS60.”
