Description

I bought the car off of “Bring A Trailer” about 2.5 years ago. Here is a link to the listing then:

The overdrive is an extremely desirable optional feature from the factory, not found on most MGBs.

My intention was to give the car to my wife as a 30th anniversary present (she had indicated a fondness for them way back). The car would need to be a reliable daily driver for someone who is not interested in doing any side-of-the-road mechanical work. As purchased, this car was a good starting point, and has checked out well (I have driven it more than 4000 miles all over New England). Additionally, in pursuit of enhancedreliableroad-worthiness, improved appearance and extended longevity, I have had the following work done professionally:

Drivetrain

Rebuilt cylinder head (new guides, valves, seals hardened seats)

New carrier bearings

Replacement spider gear in rear differential

New thrust washers, diff.

New bearing kit., (tube axle)

New U-joint.

Wheels/Bearings/Steering

New wheel bearings

New Tires (4) 185/70R-14MichelinDefender

New axle limit straps

New tie rod ends

New steering rack boots

Ignition

New ignition coil.

New ignition, Pertronix,

New distributor cap.

New ignition wire set

New spark plugs

Cooling

New thermostat & housing gasket.

New radiator hoses.

Fresh coolant

Oil System

New oil line

New valve cover gasket.

New valve cover seal washer

New oil filter.

New oil seal.

Fuel

New fuel pump (no points! -I have the old one plus new points if you want)

New fuel filter.

Clutch/Brakes

New master cylinder

New clutch slave cylinder.

New wheel cylinders, rear

New clutch hose.

New brake hoses

New brake lines

New brake shoes

New brake pads.

New rotors

New boot, whl/cyl handbrake lever.

Fresh DOT 4 brake fluid

Misc:

New seat belts

Removed CA smog devices

Comprehensive tune by MG mechanic (British Motorworks, Ashland, MA)

Exterior

Minor rust repair at 4 corners where top meets body

New rear glass and seals

New rear bumper

The car is not show perfect, (Although one photo is in a show at Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market in downtown Boston) but instead is an excellent “driver” which I would take anywhere without hesitation. I really get a hoot out of driving it. It did not become my wife’s car, since, after doing all this, I found a green one, and she likes green better.
