Description

Thank you for looking at my auction. Up for sale is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a spectaculat kamann ghia, with a history just as fascination as it's remarkable original condition.

This car has been well know in the Pacific Northwest karmann ghia circle as the "Ghia off Dover Lane". It was remored for many years, that a low mileage original paint, NE owner karmann ghia was hiding in the Portland Oregon area, still in possession of the orginal family that bought it new, Therumor was way back when was the orginal owner had unexpectedly passed away in the early 1970's and the family parked the car under cover in a gargage off Dover Lane, and out of the public eye (as they couldn't sell it since it was a memer of the family).

My personal connection with this ghia, nd first time I laid eyes on it was in 1995, The car was in face hidden off Dover Lane in Portland Oregon, It was still owned by the FIx family, ho bought it new,.

Harold Fix (the orginial owner) was a karmann ghia lover, He bought his first karmann ghia a 1956 coupe, new from Riviera Motors, n Portland Oregon, and fell in love with the car, He really liked the mechanical upgrades that Vw had done to the ghias, nd the 1969 model year appealed to him based on the front disc brakes, IRS suspension, 12 volt electrical, nd improvede heater system, He traded his 1956 coupe in on the Oriole Yelllow 1969 coupe.

Harold left the car to his family after his passing, nd his Son, arold Fix Jr. was the caretaker for several years. Back in 1995 it had just a hair over 40k orginal miles and still wore it's original tires.

The fix family back in the mid 1990's was ready to pass the car onto a new home, nd it fell into the hands of local Pacific Northwet VW Collector Enthusiast that did an amaing job of preserving the car, aintaining it mechanically, nd keeping it in excellent unrestored condition, It was driven sparingly to the tune of 1k miles per year, just enough to exercise it and keep all systems in working order), nd today it has 59882 miles on the clock.

Now onto the current condition: This 1969 shia is the best driving, ightest hanling and one had on the wheel karmann ghia I've ever had the pleasure of driving, As close to "showroom new" as you can get. It's unreal how nice this ghia is on the open road. The original engine purrs down the road. transmission shifts beautifully, ts tracks straight, rakes well, teering box is tight with no slop etc.

All electrical works, own to the interior light, ash lights, adio, nd reverse lights mounted on the read bumper. The winshield washer squirter functions properly NO HORN

One interesting item is the gash guard mounted on the nose, Many ghia owner back when added this if their cars bot bumpled in the nose. Harold fix had this installed by the dealer when the car was new, ot to cover up damage to the nose. According to Harold Fix Jr. his father liked the racey, lfa Romeo look, nd opted for this upgrage day one.

All glass is original to the car, ncluding the winshield. There is rock chip in the front glass, lease view gallery pics for a close up. Nothing to be concerned with, it's not spreading, ut worth mentioning.

It still wears the original Oriole Yellow paint that it was born with, nd the shine is remarkable. Some original paint VWs lose heir ablity to hold a shine, this car was saved from the elements by being gaaged, nd living its pampered lift in a temperate climate, nder cover and out the of elements. As you'll see in the pictures, it does have some minor bump, ruisers and touch ups done here and there as any 46 year old car will have after all those years. It dose have some rust on drivers side quarter panel you can see under the bumper (see Pics). Overall it's still the nicest original paint karmann ghia that I've seen period.

The door shut effortlessly, aps are perfect and they close by themselves if you let go of the exterior door handles.

The sheepskin seat covers have been on it since new. I'll let the next owner decide if t hey stay or not.

It was sold new on September 9th 1968 at Paul Kock VW, n Milwaukie Oregon. Drive train is original to the car, nd the fan shroud still wears the white inspection paint, omething you don's see too ofter, nd a feature unique to low mileage cars that have their original engine tins.

It still has the original owner's manual, ervice booklet, arold Fix's customer ID card. maintenance log stamps as dealer service was performed and maintenance records accumulated over the years of service. You can track the mileage right up to Harold's passing, hen it went into hibernation back in the early 1970s.

The car in now located in central Florida. I purchased Karmann Ghia approx 6 months ago. The entire inside has been done over. Headliner, adio, indow seals, ew dash, new tires. I have receipt for approx $4,000.00.

Need to make room in my gargage. Looking to start a new project.

No matter where you go this car turns heads and thumbs up.
