Description

This 1993 Volkswagon Eurovan MV (Multi-Van) with Westfalia pop-top camper top.
Vehicle was declared salvaged by a previous owner's insurance in 2006 and titled as rebuilt by 2008. The current Virginia title is clear of anyliens.
It was through a series of fortunate events that I came to own this VW camper. I have had it for almost 3 years, imagined I would use it for more adventures, but realize my young family might make better use of a trailer camper, as we also have a newer Ford F150 van, so I am reluctantly putting this VW up for sale so it can find it's next owner and potentially greater adventures.
I am not a "car person" but will answer any questions to the best of my knowledge. I knew the previous owner, some of the camper's history, and HAVE A VIN CARFAX REPORT THAT I AM HAPPY TO SHARE VIA E-MAIL. (Now that this listing is live, I can see that there is automatically a report generated. Mine is similar, but also has a few more details.)
EBay notes "no accidents" I do not know why the van was salvaged in 2006, but have always assumed an accident. As I have to be responsible for the listing, I cannot guarantee that it has not been in an accident.

I am selling this vehicle "as is" and will not make any repairs in order tofacilitate sale.
I have had annual state safety inspections done since I have owned the van.
In order to bring it into compliance, I had my local VW guru replace the 3-peice exhaust manifold (original that was cracked) with a completely new custom-built one.
The van runs. I drive it around town when I need the space, my kids like the novelty of it, and we've taken on a fewcamping trips to the National Forest about 35 miles from home. I've had it up to 65 mph. After a fix, mymechanic told me he "tested it on the interstate", but I have not used it for long or high-speed trips.

The van does not have the electric cooler that slides under the rear-facing passenger seat behind the driver.
The popup canvas awning sides are not torn and have no holes - the lightest streaks in the photos (viewed from the inside) are thin /faded areas, not holes; see exterior photos to get an idea of what I'm referring to. Since owning it, I have not attempted to clean the canvas other than justbrushing it off.
Since owning this vehicle, I have had service and repairs done by Foreign Car Services in Harrisonburg. Safety inspections have been done at Foreign Car Services and Shenandoah Automotive.
Current VA safety inspection valid through May 2017.
I have recently replaced the fuel gauge and engine temperature gauge panel cluster and dash bulbs. (The panel is a common problem when this model vehicle gets older. You can google this; Mymechanic replaced the cluster, he did not simply do thesolder repair.) However, the coolant gauge will sporadically mis-read the engine coolant temp, sending the indicator panel light on or flashing and occasionally triggering the check engine light. Replacing the gauge could solve the issue, but afterreplacing the instrument cluster, my mechanic told me the engine itself is actually running on the cool side. (Previous owner just covered the lights with electric tape.)
As you can imagine there are some things that just don't hold up, no matter how well cared for. Most of the interior curtains are in good shape and are all functional, though there are a few snaps missing and some of the rear window curtain hangers (littleplastic things) are cracked (dry), as was a length of one of the curtain rails. The from right passenger side speaker cover is missing. There are some spots on the floor carpeting. The cover/vent for the rear passenger area air duct located behind the rear-facing passenger seat is missing. The paint will become an issue that needs attention.
Themattress pad (in the popup) and the cushion on the rear shelf (trunk) are in good shape! The rear bench seat slides forward and turns into a bed. It's comfy. I sleep "downstairs" while the kids get the "tree house" in the pop top.

If I continued to own this van for more than another year, the next project would simply be addressing the paint. You can see where the black trim on the base of the windshield is flaking, some of the hood and front sides, and there are small spots of rust just beginning to show along the rear passenger wheel well and the edge of the door (See photos.) I will begin addressing these as I can.
Non-smoking. No pets.
According to GoWesty, Kelly Blue Book values this VW Eurovan even in fair condition at $11,017 considering only the MV - not the Westfalia Camper Top. CarFax deducts a recommended $2,050 to account for the rebuilt title. GoWesty.com advises that the Westfalia Camper Top adds incredible desirability to the VW.
Keep in mind, we are talking about a 1993, 23-year-old vehicle.I don't know what the next mechanical issue will be, butI hope this honest information to the best of my knowledge, paired with the obvious, give you the info you want to begin considering if this is the vehicle for you. (This is not the vehicle for you if you think it would be a cheapsubstitute for something like a 2010 year used HondaOdyssey or Toyota Sienna minivan that any old repair place can service. Nope, this van has character, and will surely have special needs one day, but it's a fun opportunity.) It's appealing to the right people for the right reasons, and that's reflected in the KBB and Nada valuations.
Here is some additional information found at gowesty: "1993-2003 VW vans are called Eurovans. This was a complete departure from previous models, most notably in that the engine was moved to the FRONT. Eurovan production started in 1992 in Europe. The vehicle was introduced in the USA as a 1993 model as a passenger van and MV model Weekenders with and without the pop-top. All MV model Eurovans were Westfalia conversions. The full camper version of the Eurovan was introduced in the USA in 1995. All Eurovan full campers sold in the USA are Winnebago conversions, not Westfalia. 1993-1994: The only VW pop-top models offered in the USA in 1993 and 1994 was the Westfalia Weekender Multi-Van (MV). These vehicles were the same as the regular hard-top passenger vans, except they had an interior and pop-top installed by Westfalia. However, these were weekenders, without sink, frig, or stove. They had two rear-facing seats, one fixed seat behind the driver with a slide-out electric cooler under it (pop-top versions only), and the other behind the passenger seat that is quick-release (both that way on the non-pop-top version of the MV). The venerable VW/Audi in-line 5-cylinder, 2.5 liter, 130 hp engine powered all the 1993-1996 models."
*Mileage info related to salvage/repair work: In 2005 at annual inspection, the mileage was 157,000. According to the vehicle CarFax history, there was an odometer report issued in 2006. At this time a salvage title was also issued. The odometer was likely damaged in the collision that resulted in the salvage title being issued. The following odometer reading at the next year's inspection was 161,576. The odometer has tracked the miles of the previous owner, and my mileage accurately. So it does not appear that there are "mystery miles" on this van. Simply a report of the damage, and the mileage continued to beaccuratelyreported thereafter.
Please send me any questions and I'll do my best to answer back as soon as possible, and I will update this listing with answers to simplify.
