Description

This Eurovan has been a lot of fun but we're buying a school bus to LIVE in so we have to let her go! As you can see, she is ugly as sin, has lots of rust spots covered in black duct tape and bedliner, but we've priced it for half the Kelley Blue Book value to compensate for the blemishes on the body. The engine is solid, so is the transmission, the tires have some life on them, so do the brakes. Windows and locks are electric and function (though you can only roll one window down at a time). The bed pulls out and the interior is in GREAT condition for the age. The fold out table is in perfect working order, so is the pop top and bed. As you can see in the pictures the second half of the upper bed can be stacked on top of the other panel so if you're camped you can stand up inside, it feels super roomy! CD player works, all electrical is in good shape. She drives great, gets about 18-20 mpg on the freeway, and has no problem getting up to 80 mph.
Now for the bad. I want to go over every little thing so you know exactly what you are getting yourself into. The back hatch has to be opened from the inside. As you can see from the pictures, the back windshield wiper is missing and the previous owner has put foil around it where a hole has started to rust out around it.
The van is registered and inspected, we've been using it as our daily driver, but a crack on the windshield has spread over to the driver's side and I'm afraid you'll need to shell out $200 to buy a new windshield to pass inspection.
Twice in the last year the exhaust pipe where it connects to the muffler has come out from hitting a bump in the road. I just get underneath the van and pop it back in. I'm sure this could be welded.
The ABS light comes on sometimes which seems to be a sensor or a fuse.
The temp gauge light blinks. I've taken it in and was told it's a sensor that needs to be replaced, the thermometer is in perfect working condition.
Sometimes you will turn the key and the engine won't turn over. I keep the cover off the fuse box area, and when this happens I just push in all the big fuses and it ALWAYS starts automatically. I've never been stranded with this van, despite the quirks it IS dependable. With older Volkswagens like this you just want to keep an eye on your fluids, oil, etc.
I think I have covered every little quirk about the van, let me know if you have any questions! The Blue Book on this van is over $10,000 in POOR condition. This is a great opportunity to get a CHEAP parts van as a backup for your Eurovan with a nice body, or for someone who doesn't care about aesthetics and just wants to live the van life for a while!
Good luck!
PS Forgot to mention we painted the rest of it black (matching bedliner like what was used all over the body by the previous owner) except we left the pop top green, makes it easy to find in parking lots! You can see it in the 7th photo.
