Description

1973 Volkswagen Thing. 48. 34 miles. No reserve. Clear Ohio title. I have included the maximum photos allowed in the ad (24). I have a total of 133 fresh photos to share in this online album (you'll have to copy and paste in browser. for some reason it will not hyperlink)https://plus. google. com/116070153832384828542/posts/MX7vojqg1zaI tried to include every possible section I could. There are also quite a few extra parts that come with the Thing which can be seen at the end of the photos. If you would like more info contact me by email at dbebesi@gmail. com or feel free to call or text me direct at 330-421-8775. my name is David. I have also included a YouTube link of general functionality. Light/wiper tests. engine running and driving in forward and reverse. It is viewable at http://youtu. be/Ldd4GEznZq4I acquired this vehicle in the spring of 2012 with 46. 81 miles. Was is good running order when I bought it. but the brakes did not function. I replaced all brake shoes. brake lines. master cylinder. and hoses. The brakes now work very well for a vehicle of it's vintage. I also bought spacers for the wheels that are now on it (I have the original wheels. please see photos). I have to admit that the horrible paint job was done by me with a brush. It is a mixture of Por-15 and industrial rust inhibiting orange construction paint. There are a lot of runs in the paint. if you wish to restore fully it will need stripped. Those were the only modifications done since I have owned the vehicle. I had purchased rear floor pan sections. but never got around to putting them on (they are included with vehicle). The rear floor pans have holes rusted in them. but if you stand on them they still holds weight (I weigh 250 lbs). They definitely need replaced. but it will not stop someone from enjoying the vehicle as it is. Other rust issues include general rust. mostly on fenders and in the edges. and specifically on the outer mounts of the front crossmember. I have included many pictures of these issues. The crossmember rust is only rusted thru on the outer braces. The main inner braces are still solid. and I put over 2. 00 miles on it this way and never felt as if it was a safety issue. yet I do want to be clear of the issue. The windshield is plexi glass. I mention this because I would imagine that is not how they come from the factory. I honestly do not know. I also would want to mention that at it's absolute top speed 65-70 mph it can have some vibration. Nothing serious. I just want to be honest about what I am selling. The gas heater is there. I do not believe it works. never tried it. as I only drove it during the summer on very nice days. and the thought of burning gas for heat 5 inches from the gas tank always kind of bothered me. The wiring is an absolute mess (see photos). yet everything that needs to work does (see video). with the exception of the speedometer light which is intermittent. There is a top and windows. but they are not in very good shape (see photos) yet the frame for the top is perfectly fine. I believe that covers all the issues with the exception of anything cosmetically obvious from the photos included. On the positive side. I do want to mention that last year I took it on two 150+ mile trips with no issues. I installed a "stereo" that basically includes a amp with an aux input and 2 outdoor speakers. I used my phone for music and it gets surprisingly loud. I have changed the oil 3 times (it does leak some. I maybe add a total of a quart. if that. a year between the changes). Everyone waves at you and wants to talk to you about it. It has a horn that plays all kinds of songs and is always a smile generator (especially kids). Just in general a joy. It's slow. doesn't handle well. sucks when you get stuck in the rain. and yet you smile thru it all. I have many fond memories in this car and it will truly be missed. I have a young family. and we are building a house. this just contributes to the 20% bottom line. It sounds cliché but there would be no other reason I would be selling this. Local pickup is preferred. It is far too cold in Ohio right now to drive it to meet anyone. and I do not have a trailer to transport. I am willing to allow test drives. but you will need to come to me. I also have no issue shipping. but all shipping setup/costs etc will be done/paid by seller and $ will have to be cleared and in my account before shipping or title transfer takes place. This is a no reserve auction
