The engine runs (see photo of RPM gage), however there are two issues that require attention.
1. Oil leaking. Although I am not 100% sure of leak location, it appears to be coming from the cam shaft seal area--which is on the side towards the top of the engine. Oil leaks out steadily, so I would not chance driving it more than a mile or so, and therefore you will need to tow it especially since you would not want to leave a trail of oil in the street--or worse. This item will need to be repaired in order to drive it safely.2. Third gear is stuck, so you will need to use the electronic gear shift to bypass to 4th gear in manual. In automatic, it will not not go into 4th gear due to possible 3rd gear solenoid problem--that's when fault codes arise. There was a code in the computer, but it is cleared since the battery died. The battery has been recharged and the charge appears to be holding. This item does not prevent the vehicle from being driven safely.
I have to say that the electronic gear shift is a great invention, and its far more easy to use than a standard gear shift. If I had the tools, I would attempt to repair these two issues. I feel the oil issue is worse than the tranny issue because if you lose the oil in theengine, it canseize.Whereas, it runs great when using the electronic gear shift to bypass 3rd gear. I do believe the tranny would have to be dropped to replace the solenoid--although it may merely be a lose or open wire. When the oil leak occurred, soon after I had a 3rd gear issue, and the oil may have caused the wire to open-my opinion only.
The car has nice rear and side window (back seat) shading system. The A/C was cold the last time it was used and also the heater. The radio, CD, and sound system plays well--I am unsure about he cassette player because I never used it. The drivers' side seat belt harness will need replacement.Upholsteryis decent, but there is a small area around the drivers' side seat belt harness that can use some TLC. Three of the four tires have decent treads. One tire is bald (front left) and will eventually need replacement. The factory rims shine very nice once they receive a basic cleaning/car wash. 16 years old and no accidents, although there is a minor dent on the left front fender (see photo). Clear title is in my hand.
