Description

This project was started by Eric Bergman. added to by Mike Hurley. and finally built by me – Tony Hagger. As I started building café racers in London in the early sixties. I claim to know a thing or two about them! And undoubtedly. this would be the dream bike of any self-respecting rocker back in the day. Unless you could get hold of a Vincent engine – which you couldn’t – this would have been the ultimate that all craved. but very few could afford. It started as 1966 Norton Atlas. with matching frame and engine numbers. The engine was rebuilt and balanced by Don Lightbody at Acme Machine in Fort Collins. CO. and according to Eric Bergman (president of Norton Colorado) “it’s one of the smoothest Atlas’s you’ll ever find”. The engine has 10. 5/1 compression ratio Hepolites. and was rebuilt with everything that was needed – upgraded to Commando specs. –superblends. rod bearings. seals. new valves. guides. hard seats. etc. New swept back pipes and new Dunstall-type silencers. New concentric carbs. Wheels both have new deep flange alloy rims. new stainless spokes and new bearings. Front has a massive 1960’s era Factory Yamaha TD/TZ racing reproduction 4 LS double sided 10. 5” dia. (265m. m) front brake ($2. 00). Fork tubes. bearings and seals are new. New top triple clamp. head bearings. headlamp mounts. clip-ons. levers and cables. Rear wheel is a polished and lightened Triumph conical hub. Tanks are hand beaten alloy from Evan Wilcox ($3. 00 plus paint). All the black bits are powder coated. except the mudguards. which are new Stove Enameled Manx style. New Manx style seat. new rear-sets and rear shocks. New bronze swinging arm bushes. new rear chain and rear sprocket. Gearbox is 4-speed Quaife. with Commando clutch and belt primary drive. New rotor and stator. New solid state voltage Tympanium regulator mounted under the tank. and new battery mounted between the gearbox and the swinging arm pivot. Depending where you live. the carbs might need jetting (I’m at 7. 00ft. altitude). Overall. you won’t find a better one!Note: the tail light has been relocated higher on the rear fender since these pictures were takenWFUWP is listing this bike for a friend but is not the owner. The sale will be finalized between the buyer and the owner of the bike. Shipping will be the responsibility of the buyer
