Description

Up for sale is a 1980 vintage YAMAHA SR500 single piston. 5 speed. chain driven. kick-start only classic motorcycle. Sold in the US from 1978 thru 1981. Sold outside of US for many years around the continent. Re-introduced this past year as a 400cc version. It reflects what motorcycles used to be like and without a lot of plastic or frills. Weighs less than 350 lbsThe history of this bike is undocumented but was said to have been sold by the original owner after about seven years to a local Texas collector. He held it in a conditioned environment for the next 27 years. I was fortunate to convince him to sell it to me. I have had it about six months. I never bought it to resell but. as you may have heard before. health reasons now force me to sell the bike I wanted for so long. During the short time I have had it. I have had the bike inspected and titled in my name and have had it gone over to fix or correct anything that was found not to be functioning properly. That list was really very small. which reflects the absolute great condition the bike was in when I got it. The paint and chrome show no signs of age. IMO. for a 35 year old bike. The original tires look like new with no visible cracks or wear. The dealership that I had do some of the work rode it. as well as I have. It rides strong and solid. The mileage matches the way it feels: Like New. The dealership called it a real "TIME CAPSULE". It drew a lot of attention while there. What was done after I purchased the bike was replacing the existing brake caliper and master cylinder internals with correct kits. Accordingly. the original brake hoses (2) were replaced with a single steel hose between the master cylinder and caliper. Using NOS hoses did not correct the sponginess and hence the steel one. The brake hose is the only non-original equipment used on the bike. The original hoses are available if desired. The turn signal flasher was replaced. as well as a new battery. A second mirror was added to the right side. which it apparently did not have when purchased new. New air and oil filters were replaced. as was all fluids. A local dealership cleaned and serviced the carburetor and verified that everything was functioning properly. They test rode it to ensure everything did. The bike is 35 years old. so I must say that you must consider what you are buying. It's a 35 year old bike but because of it's popularity. parts are readily available in many countries. I am selling locally but will sell to my friends in GB and Australia. I am within a 50 mile radius of the Port of Houston (Texas). Shumacher Cargo Logistics operates out of it and would be a recommended way of getting the bike to one of those locations. I will assist anyway I can to help with shipping but it is the Buyer's responsibility to arrange and pay for this service. Ask any questions you need to satisfy before you bid. This bike is rare and will not be sold for less than it is worth. Included with bike is the original Yamaha SR500G Owner's Manual. a Haynes Yamaha SR500 Owner's Workshop Manual. spare sets of keys. and a carburetor repair kit (unused). as well as. miscellaneous documentation/information relating to the bike. A 12vdc solar cell charging system has also been installed under the rear carrier and can be easily removed. if not desired.
