Description

Relist due to non-paying bidder. Overview: I purchased this Suburban around a year ago as a purpose use vehicle. Our family got a cabin in up in Big Bear City (Mountains East of Los Angeles) and I needed something to haul our family. furniture and endless boxes to outfit our new place in the mountains. Me being a car guy and not wanting to rent a box truck several times went another route. So I approached my neighbor and inquired about his 1970 Suburban. He had owned it for many years. since at least 1996 that I can remember. He had it purpose built it as a hauler for his trailer and miscellaneous travel years back and only occasionally used it. It was professionally converted (from ½ to to ¾ ton) with a rebuilt ¾ ton mid-1990s suspension including disc brakes. 14 bolt ‘corporate GM rear’. heavy duty 8 lug axles and heavy duty steel wheels. The motor/trans were rebuilt as well and (I believe) original to the truck. I haven’t checked numbers to be 100% sure. but motor sure looks to be original. I can check numbers if a deciding factor for you. Mechanical: Motor. transmission and suspension have about 15 thousand miles since being rebuilt. Runs and drives really nicely and is surprisingly quiet with impeccable road manners. It really drives like a much newer suburban. Fires first crank and runs smooth and strong. no funny noises. squeaks or rattles. Overall. very mechanically sound. The only downside is there are drips under the truck after driving. It has a mechanical oil pressure gauge and is leaking from the sending unit atop the rear of the motor. that will be a very easy fix which I will take care of. The tranny has a very slow drip out of the back of the tranny output shaft. I have always checked fluids prior to trips and parked it upon return on a gravel parking area. so I haven't paid it much attention. Honestly. you can comfortably drive this truck about anywhere. Mechanically. it is a nice truck. Paint/Body/Frame: Truck has a unique patina… an authentic shabby-chic look. Many pay handsomely for the antiqued look… this one has it included. Only real area of real rust of concern is the passenger side drip rail around top of door on front-right corner of windshield (No issue on driver’s side). I believe this was attributed to the way it sat in the driveway for so many years and how the water sat stagnantly in that area. Otherwise truck body is solid I received a quote from a local reputable restorations shop to repair it correctly with a replacement section. Quoted labor was for 12 shop hours to removing the affected section and installing another small piece of donor cab. They said the area is in an area that is easy to access being right on top. There are some very small localized rust areas at base of fender and base of door that don’t look to have changed since I first saw the truck in 1996 as it as it looks the same as I remember. Otherwise body. frame. and floors are very solid top to bottom. Interior: Original black interior with exception of front (tan) split bench. Original dash in good shape. Radio area has never been disturbed. Interior is serviceable as is. All restoration parts are readily available for Chevy trucks (68-72). Original black second row seat in pretty good shape. Handle to fold down has a piece broken off but still works. No third row. Can swallow an eight foot couch and 6 foot love together (I've done it). Rear floor has padding and carpet. Helps to keeps the truck quiet. In short: Solid truck for restoration or a great shop truck. just spray on your logo and be done with it. Being a ¾ ton. you can actually put it to work…especially with barn doors that latch and can swallow an entire engine/transmission combo. a garage worth of parts. or an entire weekend of antiques. and look cool getting there. ¾ tons of utility and a ton of charm. Extremely reliable and no exaggeration. Have used for driving to the mountains several in the last 6-8 months without issue (about 350 miles per round trip) and happily averaged about 15mpg. I encourage you to please see my e-bay feedback as a seller. I have sold a handful of vehicles on e-bay over the last 10+ years and have always received very positive feedback.
