A Very Honest and Well Presented California Car
Desirably Equipped in Striking Colors
Introduced in 1961, he E-Type roadster proved to be an immediate success. Designed under the guidance of Sir William Lyons, he car was a longer and lower version of Jaguar's D-Type. Manufactured between 1961 and 1975, ts combination of good looks, igh performance, nd competitive pricing established the marquee as an icon of 1960s motoring. On its release Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made".
Series I Features with Series II Open Headlight - A Rare Factory Combination
1R34515 was completed at the Browns Lane Jaguar works on June 25, 967 as a US market example, istributed through Jaguar Cars handling in New York and sold new to W. Deane Brimm in Pale Primrose Yellow over Black leather upholstery. This particular XKE is known as an open-headlight Series 1 (aka S11/4) - not to be mistaken as a Series 1.5. The Series 1.25s were identical to the standard Series 1s except for one item - the bonnet. This bonnet featured open headlights for the first time on an E-type. All other component areas, ncluding the interior and engine compartment were identical to the late Series 1s, uch as the 4.2 XK engine with three SU carburetors, olished aluminum cam covers, nd single radiator fan, ipers, oggle switches and interior door handles. Contrary to popular belief, aguar did not use up inventory on hand to produce the Series 1.5s; all component changes on the Series 1.5s came about simultaneously beginning with the chassis numbers cited during the month of August 1967.
This longtime California car is correct in appearance with a very original patina throughout. Today this beautiful coupe an older exterior repaint on the body while the engine bay and spare tire compartment display original paint and markings. As with the cabin's upholstery, quipped with nicely mellowed leather seating and one of the most beautiful period Motorola radios we have ever seen installed. The recorded mileage of 49,500 is likely correct, udging by the originally of the car. Its solid floors are in excellent condition, s is the original glass, ebuilt suspension, nd Amco bumper guards complementing the bright chrome wheels with period correct Avon tires. There are a couple of dents/dings on the doors but overall the body remains in beautiful condition as do the engine compartment, ndercarriage, nd interior.
The driving feel is as one would imagine, porty, ight and very responsive. Overall this is a very "dialed in" and honest car. Offered with Owner's Operating Handbook and Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, his Coupe presents as an outstanding example of the Open-Headlight Series I Fixed Head Coupe.
