Description

I'll assume you know all about the 94-96 Roadmaster wagons and why they're great in general, nd just talk about this particular one. This is the fifth one I've had, nd I'm only selling it to make room for a sixth. This wagon has:
  • Dark cherry metallic paint
  • Tan leather interior
  • Limited-slip differential
  • Tow package
  • Professional window tint
Here are the important RPO Codes for this car (you can decode the entire SPI label [see pic] at rpocodes.com):
  • F40 Heavy Duty Suspension
  • GW9 2.93:1 Rear Gear Ratio
  • G67 Automatic Air Load-Leveling
  • G80 Limited-Slip Differential
  • KC4 Heavy Duty Engine Oil Cooling System
  • KD1 Transmission Fluid Cooler
  • KG9 140 Amp Alternator
  • LT1 5.7 Liter V8, igh Output
  • M30 4L60E 4-speed Automatic
  • N10 Dual Exhaust
  • UQ3 Performance Enhanced Audio Speakers
  • V08 Heavy Duty Cooling System
  • V92 Trailer Provisions
I got this one 2.5 years ago at 102K miles and had everything fixed that needed fixing:
  • Complete rear brake job
  • Front brake pads
  • Brake system flush and new fluid
  • Four-way wheel alignment
  • Cooling system flush, ressure test, ew coolant
  • Transmission flush and fluid change
  • Rear diff serviced
  • Power steering flush and change
  • Fuel injector cleaning
  • New oxygen sensor
  • New spark plugs
  • New Opti-spark distributor
  • New cap & rotor
  • New serpentine belt
  • New hoses
  • New air & fuel filters
  • New rear shocks
  • New center link & idler arm
That was over $4K of work. (See the pics of the service orders.) As you can see, was planning on keeping this one a while. It drives great: tight on-center steering, mooth shifting, uiet power, inear braking. Power everything and it all works like new, xcept as noted below.
What isn't perfect:
  • A/C works, ut is "luke cold". After 20 years, t probably just needs recharging, ut I live in Seattle so I don't use it.
  • The radio antenna does not automatically retract. It goes up fine, ut you have to push it down. It's only $160 from rockauto (ACDELCO 19245561) but it never bothered me enough to replace.
  • The tires are closer to done than to new, ut they're matching steel-belted radials with plenty of tread left.
  • The "Pass Key" idiot-light is always on because that "anti-theft" module has failed. It's ancient technology anyway.
  • The struts for the rear window are replacements and I've yet to find replacement struts that conduct electricity as the factory ones do; hence the wire around each strut to make the rear defroster work.
  • I'll take my homemade bikerack off if you like, ut there will be four bolt holes in the roofrack crossbars.
  • The rear vent windows on these cars all separate from the top hinge, nd this car has that too. The vent windows are still usable, owever, nd they don't leak.
  • The "ROADMASTER" script came off each rear quarter panel and I haven't re-attached them but they are included.
  • The driver's side mirror got picked-off by a delivery truck. The replacements only came in black. I was able to re-use the colored housing but the base is black (see pic).
  • Could use a driver's side floor mat.
Other than that, verything works as new. If you're familiar with these cars, ou know a lot of them lose their black rubber door-ding trim, ot this car; it's not even loose anywhere. A lot of the power windows get cockeyed because a $1 bushing breaks, ut I already replaced the one on the passenger rear and the others are fine.
First thing I did when I got this car and before I put any money into it was a compression test and every cylinder was within factory specs and within 5% of each other. As you probably know, hese LT1 engines are understressed in this application and should be good for 200K miles before needing to be opened. People refer to these as the "Corvette engine", ut they have a milder cam and retarded ignition so they run on regular gas and make 260 HP compared to the Corvette's 300 during the 3 years GM used these engines in these wagons ('94-'96). I also read that the LT1s in Buicks have iron blocks for longevity, hereas the Corvette engines have aluminum, o these engines are very similar to the Corvettes but not identical.
Believe the EPA mileage claims; I hauled 7 passengers with luggage up top for 200 miles with the cruise set at 65 and got 24.5 MPG. Empty, t goes 0-60 in under 8 seconds.
About the pictures: I did not detail this car; I just ran it through the Costco car wash on a rare sunny day in January. It will show a lot better with a proper interior and exterior detailing. Some pics are in direct sun, hich shows the color well but obscures detail. Some pics are in shade where reflections show how nearly perfect the body is.

$500 deposit at auction's end, he balance by PayPal, ash, r cashier's check. I'm home during the day so can assist with loading. I'm 20 minutes from Sea-Tac airport and will bring the car to you if you want to fly-in and drive home. If you're local, ome look at it and drive it; you're gonna like what you see. I already know I'll take a bath on this car, ut that's life. This car's a steal at anything below $5K, o bid to win and maybe you'll be the lucky thief.
I've bought and sold many cars online and I know it can be hard to evaluate a car without seeing and driving it, o I make you this guarantee: If you win the auction but are disappointed by this car for any reason when you come to pick it up, ou can have your money back. No negative feedback, o keeping your deposit. The fault will be entirely mine for failing to describe the car accurately.

Forgot to mention this is a Limited. Not a big deal. I think all that included was electric lumbar supports.

A bidder was worried about rust-through, o I went out with a screwdriver and a wire brush and knocked off any flaky paint and poked around, hen took more pictures; see them at the same place: https://picasaweb.google.com/101120692823414891191/96CherryWagon
What I found is solid metal at the bottoms of both B pillars (see pics). I then went after the bubbly paint at the bottom of the tailgate opening. (Tellingly, here were puddles on each rusty spot.) I brushed and poked and found solid but rusty metal there too.
The news is less good underneath. The pass side rear floor pan has definite cancer according to Dr. Screwdriver, ut the driver's side is still solid. I couldn't poke either muffler anywhere, ut they've both clearly been there awhile and might beat the tires to the grave. None of it seems like a big deal for a 20-year-old driver, ut feel free to retract your bid if the pics change your desire.

When I was out taking the rust pics, noticed 2 scratches in the rear pass-side door I hadn't noticed before, o I photographed those and uploaded them to that page.
