Description

BARN FIND 1968 FORD COUNTRY SQUIRE WOODY WAGON

I bought this wagon from the original owner last year. It had been parked under cover since 1982. This is a one-year only bodystyle. The '67 models and the '69's are different. This car is and LTD country squire, ut the galaxie models had same exact body and lines. The LTD models were just fancier in this year. I chose Galaxie as the model because ebay does not list LTD as a model choice. This year is a nice bodystyle, nd one of the best looking wagons ever made in my opinion. It has the cool foldaway headlights, imilar to a 1970 torino. The body is in very nice shape for an un-restored '68 wagon, nd the interior is in nice shape also. I'm sure most of you know, ut this is a "faux" woody. The last real woody's were produced in the late 1940's. The woodgrain on the sides of this car is not real wood, ut a wood decal. Reproduction woodgrain decals are probably re-produced but there are a variety of ways to re-do the wood, ncluding airbrushing it on. This would be a great car to restore, ut it would look great with some pro-tour type wheels/tires or whatever you like. I can get you information on the options if you'd like. Here are the details. I have many more pics that I can send also. Feel free to ask questions. Thanks and happy bidding.
MECHANICAL
This car has what appears to be the original 390. It has the C6 automatic. The original owner said it ran when it was parked, n 1982, ut then he thought it had a stuck valve. I put a battery in it and it just clicks when you turn the key. I didn't have time to get into it. It could be a fairly inexpensive fix, 'm just not sure. I've had several rigs with a stuck valve that I've un-stuck with minimal effort. It could just need pentrating oil in the cylinders, 'm just not sure. The gentleman I bought it from was in his 80's, nd I believe that he was being truthful that it ran when parked. The car was parked under cover when I got it and it was obvious it had been there a long time. This is an A/C car but the compressor is gone. The rest of the A/C system looks complete. The wheels/tires in the pics are not included. The car comes with the original wheels and two of the original hubcaps. The rear window works but is slow. It's normal for the window motors to get weak in these cars. The previous owner had the door panel off of the rear door, nd I just left it off. The brakes work for moving it around but may need attention and checked out.
BODY
The body on this car is in exceptional condition for an original survivor. The body only has one dent, nd one spot of rust. The rust is down low, t the bottom of the spare tire tub on the passenger side. It's only visible really if your up close the rest of the body is nice and dry. This includes but is not limited to the: frame, uarters, enders, oors, oof, loorpans, ockers, ailgate, ailgate jam, argo area, nder cargo storage, ood, irewall. This car is dry. The paint is usable. The woodgrain decal is not nice. There are a variety of ways to replace, r refinish these that I can advise on. There is only one dent in the rear side of one rear quarter panel. It is a soft dent, nd most likely will pop out either from the inside or with a suction dent puller. The inside panels come out of the cargo area, o access the inside of that area easily. The dent isn't very noticeable anyways. All doors open/close on the car as they should. The rear door/tailgate will either open like a regular door, r fold down like a pickup tailgate. The windshield is cracked. The other windows are in good shape. Overall the body is really nice. The paint is original. No bondo or sign of any bodywork ever.
INTERIOR
The interior is in nice shape and was out of the sun for the last 34 years. It most likely was parked under cover since it was new. The seat are nice with no tears or visible wear really at all. The headliner is nice with no tears and is not coming down anywhere. The dash has no cracks. Door panels are very nice also. The drivers armrest is cracking but the others are not. The only interior work the car needs is a new carpet. Besides that, he interior is in nice original condition and completely usable. Not mint, ut very nice and it's black which is a bonus. Many of these old wagons had tan or olive colored interior. The rear seat folds down making a large cargo area or camping area. When folded down there is plenty of room to sleep. There is a plastic trim piece under the steering column that needs screwed on. I just didn't get around to it. Overall, he interior is in surprisingly good shape. The pictures of the interior are not good. It looks better in person. The headliner picture especially does not look good but it is nice, nd black. Thanks
This classic station wagon is sold as-is. Feel free to ask questions. Thanks
