Description

1996 Ford Bronco XL original California Highway Patrol unit. CHP bought hundreds, if not thousands of sedans every year but only a handful of SUVs. This Bronco is pretty much as it was when first sold to the public. The decals were removed although you can still see the impression of "HIGHWAY PATROL" on the tailgate and the glue remains from the "SAFETY and SERVICE" decals on the 1/4 panels. The doors and roof were spray painted black. The Bronco still retains it's unique CHP items including the push bumper with integral winch, spotlight brackets and buckets and heated mirrors installed by CHP.
The Bronco needs work and should be considered a restoration project.
The body is generally straight with some dings, dents and scrapes. There is no signs of any rust on the body, the undercarriage has surface rust, the floors are excellent. The driver's seat is worn from sliding in and out and the small dashpad is cracked. The windshield is cracked. The tailgate window was working when I got it from the dash switch and tailgate key, it's not working now, I think the tailgate is not fully latched which prevents the window from moving. The tires need replacement, there is no spare. The right end of the front bumper is dented, I think the end can be removed and straightened. The Bronco starts right up and sounds good with good readings on the gauges. The check engine light is on, a scan reveals code "P0113- intake air temperature sensor 1 circuit high" . I swapped the sensor with one from another car but the code reappeared. I don't know if it's a wiring issue or ? A CALIFORNIA SMOG CERTIFICATE WILL NOT BE PROVIDED DUE TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, if that's a problem for you then don't bid. The exhaust has been cut off behind the cat. convertor, it sounds mean but is not as original. The air conditioning BLOWS COLD! I've only driven around the block and it seemed to run and shift OK. The radio is not working. The Bronco should be inspected and serviced before being driven any distance, I would recommend against driving it home. The license plates are expired.
I bought the Bronco to restore back to in service condition, I've never seen another CHP Bronco restored and would be unique. Since getting the Bronco I've realized I've got too many projects already. I'm only going to list the car for sale one time, if it doesn't sell I'll park it and work on it in the future. A $500.00 non refundable deposit is due within 24 hours via paypal, the balance is due within 7 days via cash in person, bank wire transfer or cashier's check. I have a clear title in hand marked "prior police" SOLD AS-IS You are bidding to buy the car, not the chance to inspect it, all inspections should be done before bidding.
THE LAST PICTURE IS OF AN IN SERVICE CHP BRONCO BACK IN THE DAY, IT IS INCLUDED TO SHOW WHAT THIS BRONCO COULD/DID LOOK LIKE. IT IS INCLUDED FOR REFERENCE ONLY AND MAY NOT BE THIS EXACT BRONCO WHILE IN SERVICE. If you search the internet for CHP Bronco you'll find other in service pictures.
