Description

I am selling my single cab project. This is a very straight and rust free Bus. This is the vintage of Vw that earned Vw the reputation of being user serviceable. These are simply the easiest to get at all of the fasteners. They are the Vws that I like owning and working on the most. 36hp. split case trans. 6 volt. etc. A true antique! I bought this Bus from the original owner. owner of Ocean side. California's Vw dealership during the 50s and 60s. This was a dealership owner's personal truck! It has the m-code option for the hoops and canvas. I had spoken with the original owner for 18 years before getting this truck from him! I went through the truck after it's 40 years of storage and rebuilt the entire front end and brake system. and MUCH more. However; The engine was supposed to have been rebuilt when I got it. but taught me yet. again. to do everything myself. after about 1500 miles of driving. it developed a knock. It still runs well. but develops a knock when up to operating temperature. Everything pertaining to the engine and the rest of the drivetrain(other than the trans)has been rebuilt. I pulled the engine before any real damage occurred and continued driving it with my trusty 1500 single port that will continue being my trusty (now in my Bus). This was a running and driving bus when the engine was pulled. other than the transmission having issues as well(of course). It was a non-runner Bus. having sat for so long when I got it. I crossed my fingers on the transmission. which usually live beyond other mechanicals on a Bus. unless abused. It is the original transmission to the Bus. It has the look of certainly never having been pulled apart. I can pretty much guarantee that! She needs to come apart to have the reverse gear replaced and the 2nd gear syncro swapped. otherwise I have driven this Bus many miles and can say the rest of the transmission. bearings. ring and pinion. is perfect-> = don't touch. This is a do at home job for those with normal skill. remember. this is split case transmission. and a home rebuild is the beauty of design!! Everything on the engine was detailed. fuel pump rebuilt. carburetor rebuilt. distributor rebuilt. generator rebuilt. on & on. pull apart the 36hp and repair the knock. pull the transmission and fix reverse. and all the rest of the Bus is good to go! You will have a 100% drivetrain! I have rebuilt a 211 part #. Bus only. 36hp only. starter. The starter has been reliable and flawless. This is one 6 volt Bus that you NEED to keep 6 volt. If you want a 12 volt Bus. please-> this is one rig that will prove that the original 6 volt system is flawless. For the front end. I rebuilt and regreased the spring pack. the front torsion arm seals. I cleaned and reused the original link pins(detailed the original link bearings with a tooth pick). & replaced their seals. I rebuilt all of the stuck grease fittings. Installed a new steering box pitman arm seal(hard to find!). regreased and have used the original tie rods and drag links. replaced their boots. the steering pin. etc. The clutch cable tube was cleaned out and regreased. cable and bowden tube are new German. I rebuilt and repacked the clutch pedal pivot in the frame. I did the same with the brake pedal pivot with a new return spring. and new pedal to floor seals. All of the brake steel lines have been replaced as well as all hoses. cylinders. shoes. cut the drums(very fat & well within spec. on the world's nicest drum machine). repacked the front wheel bearings and replaced their seals. installed new rear wheel seals. regreased the brake cables and their pivot. rebuilt the gear shifter with new bushings. coupler. & rebuilt the floor assembly. I had the speedometer rebuilt. and installed with a new cable. Everything electrical works perfectly. including the fog lights and horn. The fog lights are wired to come on with the running lights and headlights. & turn off with high beams. The front end was left bolted to the Bus when rebuilt. Every component that was removed has been detailed. There is spot rust on 'baseball cap' above passenger windshield glass. spots along drivers rocker and the inner floor adjacent to. & the common rust along the lower gates. Other than these specifics. it is a mostly rust free Bus. The inner rockers are solid and it has an immaculate frame! Many points of restoration have been started. This is an irreplaceable Bus! The truck has had one respray of white over the original Light Grey paint. A rare color for a single cab! I have stripped most of the white off and touched up where I went through. This is an original paint truck at this point. Less than 20% is respray. The interior has it's original floor mat. The seat has been pro rebuilt and is very comfy. I had custom pockets made along the front half. It has a very nice original paint dash. The front floors are in excellent shape. The front floors and interior have original paint that looks very nice. The truck has very straight gates! Same with the bed! The lower inner skins on the gates will soon need replaced but they are working very well right now as is. It is a very dry Bus. Near perfect. original battery tray! Nothing is missing that wouldn't be replaced during restore as matter of course. Everything works. like windows sliding. doors shutting properly. etc.
