Description

Greetings, fellow NSX enthusiast.

Here’s an opportunity to feel good about buying yourself the red-hot new NSX.

This auction is a bit unusual, so let me explain how we got here.

My name is Jeff Swearingen, I am an NSX enthusiast, husband, father and software CEO based in Austin, Texas.

In 2012, I placed a $2,500 deposit to be on the waiting list for the new NSX at David McDavid Acura here in Austin. I’ve been #2 on the list since then, right behind a guy who runs a computer company here in town. You have more than likely bought one of his computers. He just picked up his car so it’s my turn.

I’ve owned 3 NSX vehicles (1991, 1997 and 2003) and have loved them all. For a variety of reasons, it’s not the right time for me to buy this car. We have 4 cars already with a 3 car garage and I’m in the middle of construction of a new office building.

Here’s where you come in.

This auction is for my spot and my $2,500 deposit, which you can apply toward the purchase of your NSX, which you can custom order at David McDavid Acura.

Here’s where the feel-good part comes in.

Rather than write me a check, you make a tax deductible donation to a great cause called Lucky Lab Rescue. You can read about it (and see dogs available for adoption) at http://www.luckylabrescue.com/dogs/austin or find them on Facebook by searching for Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption.

We are not directly affiliated with this organization, but have been a foster home for 15 dogs this year. Lucky Lab is a great group of unpaid volunteers that rescue Labrador / lab-mix puppies and adult dogs from high-kill shelters. The rescued dogs are rehabilitated in private homes while the organization finds forever homes for them. It’s a small organization with a small budget, so your donation / purchase will go a long way. 100% of their funds come from donations and 100% of their budget goes directly to the care of the rescued dogs. Nobody from Lucky Lab takes a salary, it is run by volunteers like my kind-hearted wife.

The organization is based in Indiana and works there in addition to Texas and parts of New England. Lucky Lab has saved thousands of dogs since its inception in 2008. We have been particularly impressed with their willingness to save dogs that are deeply distressed, including those abused, neglected, sick and even one that someone threw in a San Antonio dumpster this summer. Google “Millie the dumpster dog” to read about her rescue.

This is an unusual auction, so I want to make sure that I fully describe what is being offered.

-This auction is not for the car itself, it is for my spot and my $2,500 deposit, which you may apply to the purchase of your car.

-The car must be purchased at David McDavid Acura in Austin. I will provide contact information of the dealer to anyone with questions and to validate what I am representing here.

-The VIN entered here is not real, I couldn't start the auction without one, so I modified a legit one to make it work.

-The dealer told me this week that my order can be placed at the end of August. They say the production time should be about one month. I will have zero control over when you actually order and receive your car, but you can validate the projected timeline with the dealer and you will be able to custom configure it during the ordering process.

-The dealer is charging a 12% premium over the sticker price of the car. I wasn’t very happy about this, but they claim that dealers are getting premiums above this amount. I am in no way representing that this is a good value or a bad value. While I’ve seen other cars (even used ones) sell for well over their sticker price, I am not aware of what the market is paying for these cars. I am also told that there is a multi-year wait list to custom order a car, but have no way of validating this.

-Lucky Lab Rescue is a registered non-profit organization, so your contribution will be tax deductible.

If the opening bid is met, I will let the auction continue to the end. If no bids have been received, I may end the auction early. My guess is that this transaction will be completed outside of the auction, but it would also be really cool if the bid exceeded the opening amount. $50,000 would be a game changer for Lucky Lab Rescue.

OK, so there’s probably a part of you thinking that perhaps this is some type of a clever scam. I don’t blame you, the world can be a tricky place. If you are interested, but skeptical, here are a few things that may help.

-Your check goes directly to Lucky Lab, not to me.

-You get my deposit, which the dealer would be very happy to simply give me back. For my $2,500, I hope you’ll send me a picture of you enjoying your new car.

-You can confirm that everything is legit with the dealer.

-Here I am on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffswearingen

Anyway, I hope this describes things. If you are a qualified and interested buyer, please contact me here and I will do my best to answer questions.

How often do you get the chance to make a donation to a very worthy cause without having to attend a fundraiser where you walk away with a headache and some junk from the silent auction? By winning this auction, you get an awesome car and feel great about helping a worthy cause with a tax deductible donation.

Happy bidding!
