BMW's flagship 8 Series built in V12 and V8 cylinders was ground breaking in its day with its sweeping pillar less roofline and subtle grand touring styling but is also introduced some BMW hallmarks in engineering including the company's famed multi-link rear axle. Although the V12 may be sexy the 840Ci V8, vailable with a 5-speed automatic transmission, roved to be the better "car" for daily trouble free use. The only external features distinguishing the V8 model from the V12 models were the quad round exhausts, hich were square in the V12 models. The 1996 BMW 840i featured the newer 4.4 liter V8 M62B44 engine, hich had better fuel economy and more torque. Today the 8 Series styling is more appreciated than when introduced and BMW collectors are seeking super low mileage examples.
