Description

This 1988 E28 M5 is a 3 owner example that has no mechanical issues whatsoever and is ready to go for a long run. I have owned it since year 2000. It has all matching body vin tags, riginal engine and transmission, he car starts, dles, ccelerates, orners, tops and keeps you in air conditioned comfort just as she should. It has 111k showing on the odometer which failed. true mileage should be around 140k.It has been my Sunday driver since 2000 and has been a well loved car. I have lots of reciepts from the BMW dealer, hat said i have done most of the preventative and routinemaintenanceover theyears myself. This is one great fact about this car, ou can work on it yourself. N ot so much with modern cars. stated simply, he car has never been unprepared for a long tour. If your interested in a list of things done please ask and i will email you everything. I will mention here a few big jobs completed: timing chain, uides, tensioners, sprockets and oil pump were all done as preventative about eight years ago.also the rear subframe bushings and new clutch around that same year. The rest is literally a list of every wear item you could list minus the engine any transmission which have been trouble free. great car, ot perfect, veryone enjoys being in its presence.Quotes taken from Hagerty's collactables website: "Collectors simply cannot go wrong with a good condition M5 of this generation. As one of the rarest BMWs, nd one of the best-performing, he cars have maintained good value and there’s every reason to believe they will continue to be popular. The rarest would include the black interior with heated seats, ut that shouldn’t affect the price. They’re all prizes.""The M5 was based on the E28 chassis shared with the 535i, ut included a more powerful engine based on the original BMW M1 sports car. The engine was a 3.5-liter DOHC inline six rated at 256 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. The engine was coupled to a five-speed manual transmission, nd all M5s included a limited slip differential. The M5’s list price in the United States was $46,500.":"The first generation of the BMW M5 was the fastest production sedan in the world when it was built, ith a 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds, nd a top speed of 148 mph. It is also among the rarest modern BMW models in the world, ith total production of just 2,191 cars."In the corners the car handlesextremelywell andbenefitsfrom being slightly lowered with Bilstein shocksandh&r springs. The car brakes exceedingly well as it has as standard four pot calipers up front from the factory. The wheels are free of curb marks and are polished bare metal, o worries of clear coat issues, ust like the cars single stage no clearcoat paint. The environment inside the car is fantastic. This car came with every imaginable feature as standard and it all works. Has been brought into the modern day age with a Bluetooth stereo system. (original head unit and code come with the car) The air blows col, he seats leather are supple and look fantastic. The currently installed comfort package seats are not touched up in anyway and the patina is impressive.virtuallyno wear. just age that you cannot buy.speaking of age that cannot be bought...the paint on the car is far from perfect but has very nice patina. the hood, oof and trunk have been resprayed with correct single stage paint as these surfaces were getting very thin and it just needed to be done.the sides of the car are original paint and still has the hand painted original pin-strips. this is the area were authenticsurvivorpatina benefits the carin myopinion. the car does need to be brought to a shop and have some bottom of the doors issuesaddressed, nd the trunk gasket area as well. there is one breach in the metal on the drivers rear fender the size of a peanut but its contained to theexteriorwall. My plan if i were keeping the car as a collector would be to spotaddress these paint issues, ell the outstanding comfort seating and return theinteriorto stock. This work would, ccording to the Hagerty condition guide bring the car to a condition three which is currently valued at 36k... hencemy asking price of fourteen thousand less. vistit hagertys website for full pricing and condition expectations. Mechanically this car is ready for a long tour and will performoutstandingly. This is a carthat'snearly thirty tears old, leasedon'texpect it to be new.there will be dirt,, luid seepage, icks and pits and otherimperfections. if it was free of these things it would be as Hagertys documents it...a 90 thousand dollar car.other things on my list ihaven'tdone yetFind a glove box light assembly and install.fix the trunk hold up mechanismihaven'tdone the brake fluid in a few yearsnor the transmission fluidnor the diff fluid.( these have been done numerous times in my ownership)I am willing to be helpful with shipping but you must make the calls do the paperwork and pay.i will deliver the car to the service withing reason...lets say 200 miles.title is in hand and wont be traded until bank confirms funds, hat included trip to the bank with cash for inspection.happy holidays!
