Beautiful 1998 BMW 740iL with 140,000 miles
I am the 3rd owner and have had the car for over 10 years. Cared for meticulously - I have all repair receipts from the last 10 years. I still have the original purchase brochure and VHS tape describing the car, s well as the business card of the original sales person. (This is not of any value, ut may illustrate how much the car has been cared for.)
I absolutely hate to get rid of this car, ut I just don't need it. I work from home now and rarely drive it.
The oil was just changed and the car just passed the emissions test in Colorado. My mechanic recommends some suspension work. I don't want to do the work when I rarely use the car. The suspension work will likely cost anywhere from $1200-$1800 - depending on where the repair is done.
The pixels on the electronic dashboard are failing (see picture) so you can't read the milage. The last milage recorded by my mechanic (I have the records) was 133,090 on 2/24/14. Since I have not driven the car much in the past 2 years, estimate the milage to be around 140K - which is probably a high estimate. With the dashboard pixels failing, ou also can't read any of the alerts that come up (like 'check rear brake light' - which is a current alert).
The right rear brake light is out. It may need a new assembly. Also the AC is blowing cool so it will need to be charged come summertime. The car is beautiful. There are no dents, nly minor scratches that are barely noticeable. There is a small area of rust staring near the trunk. It is not visible unless you open the trunk.
The car is a 1998, o there will be minor wear items and normal maintenance that will need to done eventually, ut I have had people comment that the car looks almost brand new (from people unfamiliar with the 7 series style changes).
This car is an amazing ride - fast & smooth. The main concern right now is the suspension work that needs done sooner than later.
